Edifier S2000MKIII Bookshelf Speakers (Brown)

Edifier S2000MKIII Bookshelf Speakers (Brown) – Powered Hi-Fi Speakers with Planar Tweeters

The S2000MKIII is the flagship of Edifier’s classic bookshelf line: a fully powered stereo pair that needs no separate amplifier, built around a planar diaphragm tweeter and a 5.5-inch aluminium woofer in each wood-veneer cabinet. Tri-amplified Class-D power totalling 130 watts RMS, dual DSP chips managing the electronic crossover, and inputs spanning Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD, optical, coaxial and two analogue line-ins make it a complete music system in two boxes. This brown finish is the warm, traditional version, suited to wooden furniture and classic interiors.

Key features

• Planar diaphragm tweeters for detailed, extended high frequencies
• 5.5-inch aluminium diaphragm woofers
• 130 W RMS tri-amplified Class-D power (15 W + 15 W treble, 50 W + 50 W mid-bass)
• Dual DSP chips for electronic crossover and dynamic control
• Bluetooth 5.0 with Qualcomm aptX HD decoding
• Optical, coaxial and two RCA line inputs; digital audio up to 24-bit / 192 kHz
• Four listening presets: Monitor, Dynamic, Classical and Vocal
• OLED display, infrared remote control and individual bass and treble adjustment

What a planar tweeter does differently

Most speakers at this level use a dome tweeter, where a curved diaphragm is driven from its edge or centre and can flex as it moves. A planar diaphragm is a flat membrane driven across its whole surface, so it moves as one piston with very low distortion and fast, clean transients. In listening terms that means cymbals, strings and vocal detail arrive with unusual clarity and extension — the S2000MKIII’s response reaches 40 kHz — without harshness at volume.

Tri-amplification and DSP control

Each driver has its own amplifier channel: 15 watts per tweeter and 50 watts per woofer, 130 watts in total. Two DSP chips independently handle the electronic crossover between the drivers and the system’s dynamic control, so the split of frequencies is precise and protection is managed digitally rather than by crude limiting. Separate bass and treble adjustment, a 50-step master volume with a sensible start-up level, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB or better complete a specification closer to studio equipment than to typical powered speakers.

Sources: television, turntable-era analogue and streaming

Optical and coaxial inputs take digital audio from a TV, streamer or CD transport at up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. Two RCA line inputs cover analogue sources such as a phono stage, DAC or older player, and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD gives phones and tablets a wireless path at well above standard Bluetooth quality. The OLED screen on the active speaker shows the selected input, sound mode and volume, and the infrared remote handles source, mode and power from the listening seat.

Four presets, honestly useful

The Monitor preset is the flattest setting, for critical listening. Dynamic adds weight and presence for films and modern recordings, Classical opens the presentation for orchestral material, and Vocal brings speech and singers forward — useful for podcasts, dialogue and vocal-led music. Combined with the bass and treble trims, they let one pair of speakers serve a TV corner, a desk and a dedicated listening chair equally well.

If you want a self-contained stereo system with genuine hi-fi driver technology and no amplifier shopping, the S2000MKIII in brown is Edifier’s most complete answer.
