The Focal Alpha 65 Evo is a two-way active nearfield monitor built for mixing, mastering, music production and broadcast work where the balance you hear has to be the balance that is actually there. It pairs a 6.5-inch (16.5cm) woofer with Focal’s Slatefiber cone to a 1-inch (25mm) aluminium inverted-dome tweeter, driven by 80W of Class D bi-amplification – 55W to the low-frequency driver and 25W to the tweeter. The result is a rated frequency response of 40Hz to 22kHz (±3dB) and a maximum output of 104dB SPL (peak at 1m), giving the monitor enough low-end reach and headroom to judge kick, bass and vocal placement in small and mid-sized rooms without reaching for a subwoofer.

Alpha 65 Evo is sold individually, so a stereo pair is assembled from two units, and its tonal balance is designed to stay identical at low and high listening levels – what you set quietly in the morning is still the mix you hear when the room gets loud.

Slatefiber Cone and Inverted-Dome Tweeter

The Slatefiber cone is made from recycled non-woven carbon fibres sandwiched between layers of thermoplastic polymer, a structure chosen for its combination of rigidity, light weight and damping. In practice that balance keeps the cone behaving as a single piston through the low and midrange frequencies, so transients stay clean and midrange detail – the region where voices, snares and guitars live – is reproduced without added colouration. Above it, the aluminium inverted-dome tweeter works the other way to a conventional dome: its inverted profile and wide dispersion spread high frequencies evenly across the room, which keeps the stereo image and tonal balance stable even when you move around the desk rather than sitting locked in one sweet spot.

Room Tuning and Connections

Few project studios are acoustically perfect, so the Alpha 65 Evo carries shelving filters on the rear panel: the low-frequency level (0-300Hz) adjusts by ±6dB and the treble level (4.5-22kHz) by ±3dB, letting you compensate for placement near walls or corners and for bright or damped rooms. Input sensitivity can also be switched between 0 and +6dB. Three sources can stay connected at once – balanced XLR and TRS for interfaces and consoles, unbalanced RCA for consumer devices – and the cabinet’s 15mm MDF construction, internal bracing and large laminar port keep the enclosure quiet and the low end free of port noise. Threaded inserts allow wall or ceiling mounting for surround and immersive setups.
