Genelec G2 Active Speaker

Genelec G2 Active Speaker – Studio Accuracy Sized for the Home

The Genelec G2 is a compact active speaker from the Finnish maker’s G series, the home-audio line derived directly from its professional studio monitors. It pairs a 4-inch bass driver with a 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter, each powered by its own 50-watt amplifier, so there is no separate amplifier or speaker cable run to plan. Connect a source and the G2 is ready to play.

What separates the G2 from ordinary powered speakers is intent. Genelec voices its home speakers the same way it voices its studio monitors: flat, honest and free of the bass lift and treble sparkle added to make small speakers sound impressive for thirty seconds in a shop. Music is presented as it was recorded, which is why a G2 system stays satisfying for years rather than weeks.

Studio DNA in a domestic cabinet

The rounded aluminium cabinet is not styling for its own sake. Its curved surfaces control diffraction at the baffle edges, and its density leaves almost no cabinet colouration for the drivers to fight. The tweeter sits inside Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide, which matches the dispersion of the two drivers at the crossover so the sound stays coherent whether you sit directly in front of the speakers or off to one side. Active crossovers work at line level before amplification, giving each amplifier complete control of its own driver.

Setup in minutes

Each G2 needs only a mains connection and one RCA cable from your source: a music streamer, a television, a computer interface or a turntable fitted with a phono preamp. The Iso-Pod foot isolates the cabinet from the desk or shelf beneath it and tilts the speaker toward ear height. A bass tilt switch on the rear panel trims low-frequency output when the speaker must sit close to a wall or in a corner, keeping voices clear and bass tidy in real rooms.

Who the G2 suits

Choose a pair of G2 speakers for desktop listening, a bedroom system, a small living room or a compact television setup where a soundbar feels like a compromise. They suit listeners who value accuracy and long-term build quality over wireless features and flashing lights. Add a second pair later for another room, and every Genelec in the house will share the same honest family sound.
