JBL Grip Portable Speaker – Black

JBL Grip Portable Speaker (Black)

The JBL Grip in Black is JBL’s grab-and-go portable Bluetooth speaker: a tall, slim cylinder shaped to be picked up in one hand, with a rope loop, an ambient light panel on the back and a build rated IP68 waterproof, dustproof and drop-proof. This listing is the Black finish. It is designed for everyday listening that moves: from desk to balcony, bathroom shelf to beach bag, without the size or fragility of a larger portable speaker.

Pro Sound with AI Sound Boost

The Grip’s single 43 x 80 mm full-range transducer is driven with 16W RMS of output power and covers a frequency response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz at minus 6 dB, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 80 dB. AI Sound Boost analyses the incoming music in real time and predicts the driver’s movement, optimising output so the small cabinet plays bigger with less distortion at higher volumes. The result is the familiar JBL character: punchy low end for its size and clear, forward highs that keep vocals and podcasts intelligible outdoors as well as in a kitchen or home office.

Ambient light and app control

The back panel carries an integrated ambient light with a choice of themes and colours, switched from a side-panel button and fine-tuned in the JBL Portable app, where you can also adjust brightness, set the equaliser and update firmware. The light turns the Grip from a plain utility speaker into a small mood piece for evenings on a balcony, bedside listening or a gathering around a table. Playback and volume controls sit on the speaker itself, so the phone can stay in a pocket for basic operation.

Waterproof, dustproof and drop-proof

JBL rates the Grip IP68, the highest dust and water protection in its portable line: fully dust-tight and able to handle immersion, so pool decks, beach days, boat trips and bathroom steam are all fair game. Just as relevant day to day, the design is drop-proof, tested to survive a 1 metre fall onto concrete, which covers the knocks a speaker carried by its loop will inevitably take. The Black finish runs through the fabric and housing, and the whole unit weighs 385 grams, light enough to hang from a backpack strap without noticing it.

Battery and Auracast pairing

The lithium-ion battery (10.01 Wh, equivalent to 2600 mAh) plays for up to 12 hours on a single charge depending on volume and content, and Playtime Boost in the app trades a little output tuning for 2 additional hours when the session runs long, for up to 14 hours total. A full recharge takes about 3 hours. Bluetooth 5.4 handles the connection to phones, tablets and computers, and Auracast support means two Grips can be stereo paired, or the Grip can join other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers for a larger shared system.

Compact, tough and easy to carry by design, the JBL Grip in Black suits listeners who want a speaker that lives by the door: pick it up by the loop, take it anywhere, and let it handle water, dust and drops without complaint.
