The Audient iD14 MKII is a 10-input, 6-output USB-C audio interface built around the same discrete analogue mic preamp circuit found in Audient’s ASP8024-HE recording console. It is aimed at home and project studios that have outgrown entry-level interfaces: two console-grade preamps for recording, high-performance conversion for mixing decisions, and an ADAT input that lets it grow from two microphone inputs to ten when a session demands it.

Audient’s Console Mic Preamp is a fully analogue, discrete design, not an emulation. The two preamps deliver 68 dB of gain with ultra-low noise and low distortion and a touch of classic analogue warmth. True Phantom Power delivers a full 48V per channel even though the interface is bus-powered. A JFET instrument input, designed to replicate the input stage of a classic valve amplifier, gives guitars and bass the right foundation for amp simulations.

Conversion you can mix on

The MKII’s 32-bit converter technology is specified at 126 dB of dynamic range on the DAC side and 120 dB on the ADC side. That headroom means recordings keep their detail at sensible levels and playback reveals small problems, reverb tails, edit clicks and low-level noise, early enough to fix them.

Monitoring and workflow

Four line outputs allow two sets of speakers to be connected for checking how a mix translates, or the extra outputs can feed an external headphone amplifier for performers. The headphone amplifier drives headphones up to 600 ohms and provides both a 1/4-inch jack and a 3.5 mm mini-jack, so two people can listen without a splitter. The configurable iD button can be assigned to functions such as DIM, CUT, polarity reverse, mono sum, talkback or cue mix, and ScrollControl turns the large volume knob into a controller for software parameters. The iD software mixer handles ultra-low-latency direct monitoring, independent artist mixes and loopback for streaming and podcasting.

Grows with the studio

The optical input is the iD14 MKII’s long-term advantage. Connect an eight-channel preamp over ADAT and it handles drum kits, live band recording and multi-microphone setups that a two-input interface cannot. The all-metal chassis, hand-milled aluminium knobs and compact footprint, just over 17 cm wide, suit a studio desk or a location recording bag equally well.
