The Audient iD4 MKII is a 2-in, 2-out USB audio interface built around components from Audient’s large-format consoles. Its single microphone preamp uses the same discrete Class-A circuit design as the ASP8024-HE recording console, delivering 58 dB of gain with an equivalent input noise of -129 dB and distortion of just 0.0017 percent, plus true 48 V phantom power delivered over USB for condenser microphones. Alongside it sits a dedicated JFET instrument input modelled on the input stage of a classic valve amplifier, so guitars and basses record with their natural harmonic character intact.

Conversion is the other headline: the ADC offers 120 dB of dynamic range and the DAC 125.5 dB, figures that lead this class of interface and let you hear mix detail that lesser converters smear. Two line outputs feed studio monitors, and the dual headphone outputs (both 6.3 mm and 3.5 mm sockets, usable simultaneously) are powered by a headphone amplifier strong enough for 600-ohm studio headphones, delivering up to 280 mW. Resolution runs to 24-bit / 96 kHz over a USB-C connection that also powers the unit.

Workflow Details

Zero-latency direct monitoring comes from the Monitor Mix control, which blends input and playback signals, with a Monitor Pan function for placing the input in the stereo field while tracking. A dedicated speaker on/off button mutes the monitors without touching levels, and loopback routes computer audio together with the microphone input, which streamers and podcasters need for capturing calls and system sound alongside their voice. Round-trip DSP latency is as low as 0.31 ms at 96 kHz.

The iD4 MKII suits singer-songwriters, producers, voice artists and streamers who record one source at a time but refuse to compromise on preamp or conversion quality.
