The Sonos Ray is the most compact and accessible soundbar Sonos makes: a single, forward-facing bar that replaces thin TV speakers with clear dialogue, honest stereo separation and enough low-end support to make films feel finished. It connects to the TV with an optical cable — deliberately simple, with no HDMI handshake issues — and joins the Sonos system over Wi-Fi for music streaming, multiroom grouping and future expansion into a full surround setup.

Inside, two tweeters and two midwoofers are driven by four Class-D amplifiers, with custom waveguides spreading sound wider than the bar’s 56cm width suggests. Speech Enhancement and Night Sound modes handle the two most common living-room complaints — mumbled dialogue and overly loud action scenes — from the Sonos app.

The forward-facing driver array and waveguides project voices into the room rather than at the floor or wall, and Speech Enhancement lifts the vocal band further when a mix buries it. Bass response is handled by a precision bass reflex system that keeps low frequencies controlled instead of boomy — enough to give films weight in a bedroom or apartment without disturbing the neighbours.

Part of the system

On Wi-Fi, the Ray is a full Sonos citizen: group it with speakers in other rooms, stream from the major services through the Sonos app, or send audio with AirPlay 2. It can also be the first step in a home theatre that grows — add a Sub Mini or Sub for real low end and a pair of Era or One speakers as surrounds, all wirelessly, when the room and budget allow. Infrared remote passthrough means your existing TV remote controls volume, keeping the coffee table uncluttered.

Setup in minutes

Two cables — power and optical — and the Sonos app’s guided setup, including Trueplay room tuning with an iPhone, finish the installation. The bar sits on a TV stand or mounts on the wall, and its forward-firing design works even inside a cabinet shelf where side-firing bars struggle.
