The JBL Control 50 PACK is a packaged subwoofer-satellite loudspeaker system from JBL Professional’s Control Contractor series, designed for foreground and background music in restaurants, retail stores, cafés, health clubs, bars and leisure venues. The pack combines one Control 50S/T surface-mount subwoofer with four Control 52 satellite speakers as a pre-designed system, so coverage and crossover matching are already worked out. The full system reaches from 32 Hz to 20 kHz, giving small, discreet satellites genuine full-range support from the subwoofer.

The system is selectable for 70 V / 100 V distributed lines or low-impedance operation, which makes it suitable both for long cable runs across a venue and for simple two-zone hi-fi style installs. With all four satellites connected in bypass mode the system presents a 4-ohm load (8 ohms with two satellites), and transformer taps of 80, 40 and 20 watts (plus 10 watts on 70 V lines) let the installer set levels per zone. System power capacity is 200 watts continuous program.

How the Pack Works

The amplifier connects to the subwoofer, which contains the crossover and the transformer. Satellites wire from the subwoofer using removable locking 2-pin connectors with screw-down terminals, and a loop-out on the subwoofer passes signal onwards for larger systems. The 8-inch subwoofer driver works down to 32 Hz, while each 2.5-inch satellite covers 140 Hz upwards with a wide 150 x 150 degree coverage pattern, so a handful of small speakers can fill a venue evenly without hot spots. The system is mono, the standard approach for distributed background music.

Scaling the System

For a smaller floor area, the same subwoofer can run with just two satellites. For bigger or irregular spaces, Control 52 satellites and Control 40 Series in-ceiling models can be intermixed on the same line, matching the form factor to each part of the room. Maximum system output is 107 dB continuous (113 dB peak) with four satellites, ample for foreground music in lively venues.

Installation and Wiring Notes

Installation follows a simple order: mount the subwoofer centrally on the wall, run the amplifier feed to its input, then wire each satellite from the subwoofer’s outputs using the removable locking 2-pin connectors. Set the selector for the line type in use, either a 70 V or 100 V distributed line at the chosen tap, or bypass for low-impedance operation. Aim each satellite from its bracket, which allows up to 45 degrees of adjustment, and keep satellites spread evenly rather than clustered, since their wide 150-degree coverage rewards spacing. A loop-out on the subwoofer passes the full-range signal onward when a second system or additional speakers share the same feed.
