The PACE CALYPSO 8P Active Subwoofer is an ultra-compact, fully powered subwoofer built to bring the magic of music and movies to smaller rooms. The PACE CALYPSO 8P pairs a front-firing 8-inch woofer with an 8-inch down-firing passive radiator, so a cabinet barely larger than a foot in any direction can still deliver the low-frequency weight that small bookshelf and satellite speakers cannot produce on their own. Because the amplifier is built in, the PACE CALYPSO 8P needs no external power amplifier: connect a line-level or subwoofer signal, set the level, and the room gains the foundation that makes films feel larger and music feel complete.
Why Choose the PACE CALYPSO 8P Active Subwoofer?
Most rooms used for music and television are not large, and a big subwoofer cabinet is often the first thing a household rejects. The PACE CALYPSO 8P answers that problem directly: its compact cube form, measuring 10.5 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 12.5 inches high including its feet, fits beside a television unit, under a side table or in the corner of a study without dominating the room. The 100-watt built-in amplifier is matched to the driver and passive radiator by the manufacturer, so there is no guesswork about amplifier power or impedance matching. For listeners who want deeper bass from an existing stereo or home theatre system without replacing their main speakers, the PACE CALYPSO 8P is a focused, affordable upgrade that addresses exactly one weakness: missing low end.
Key Features
100-watt built-in amplifier: The fully powered design means the PACE CALYPSO 8P runs from a standard mains connection and a signal input, with no separate power amplifier to buy or place.
8-inch front-firing woofer: The main driver fires forward into the room, giving direct, articulate bass for music and film soundtracks alike.
8-inch down-firing passive radiator: The passive radiator on the underside reinforces the lowest notes without a port, keeping the cabinet compact while extending perceived depth.
Ultra-compact cube cabinet: At 10.5 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 12.5 inches high with feet, the subwoofer suits apartments, bedrooms, studies and small living rooms.
Simple setup: A single powered unit with straightforward level adjustment integrates with an existing amplifier, receiver or television audio system.
Music and movie versatility: The PACE CALYPSO 8P is equally at home underpinning a two-channel music system and adding impact to film dialogue, effects and scores.
Best Suited For
The PACE CALYPSO 8P suits apartment living rooms, bedrooms, studies and small home theatres where floor space is limited but bass is missed. It is a natural partner for compact bookshelf speakers, soundbars with a subwoofer output, and entry-level home theatre receivers, and it works well in restaurants, cafes and small retail spaces that need warm background music without a large visible loudspeaker. Anyone whose current system sounds thin at low volume, or whose films lack weight in action scenes, will hear the difference immediately.
Setup and Connection Guide
Place the PACE CALYPSO 8P near the front of the room, close to the main speakers and a mains socket, leaving clearance beneath the cabinet so the down-firing passive radiator can move air freely. Connect the subwoofer output of your amplifier or receiver to the subwoofer input, or use a line-level connection where your system provides one. Start with the volume control low, play familiar music, and raise the level slowly until the bass feels like part of the main speakers rather than a separate source. If the bass sounds boomy in a corner, move the unit a short distance out from the walls and re-check. Keep the grille on for everyday use and remove it only for inspection or cleaning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the PACE CALYPSO 8P need a separate amplifier?
No. The PACE CALYPSO 8P is a fully powered active subwoofer with a built-in 100-watt amplifier, so it only needs a signal from your existing system and a mains connection.
What size of room is the PACE CALYPSO 8P right for?
Its compact 8-inch design is intended for small to medium rooms. In a very large open-plan living space a larger subwoofer will fill the room more evenly, but in apartments, bedrooms and studies the Calypso 8P provides satisfying depth without overwhelming the space.
Can the PACE CALYPSO 8P be used with a stereo music system?
Yes. Any stereo amplifier or receiver with a subwoofer or preamplifier output can feed the PACE CALYPSO 8P, and the added low-frequency foundation benefits music just as much as film sound.
