Alto TS12S 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer

Alto TS12S 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer

The Alto TS12S is a powered subwoofer from the Truesonic TS series, built to give portable PA systems the dedicated low end that full-range top cabinets cannot produce on their own. A high-efficiency Class D amplifier rated at 2500 watts peak drives a 12-inch woofer with a 3-inch high-temperature voice coil, reaching a maximum SPL of 130dB at one metre. It is the most compact subwoofer in the TS sub range, which makes it the natural choice for mobile DJs, small bands, presenters and venues that move or store their system regularly.

Frequency response runs from 44Hz to 140Hz at the minus 3dB points, with a usable range extending from 38Hz to 152Hz at minus 10dB. That coverage is deliberately focused on the region where kick drums, bass lines and electronic low end carry their weight, leaving the midrange and vocal detail to the top speakers. Used with Alto TS4 series tops or other suitable full-range cabinets, the TS12S lets the whole system play cleaner and louder, because the tops no longer have to reproduce the lowest octaves themselves.

Key features

• 2500W peak Class D amplifier
• 12-inch woofer with 3-inch high-temperature voice coil
• Maximum SPL of 130dB at 1 metre
• User-selectable EQ tunings and four-position phase alignment
• Dual combo XLR and TRS inputs with dual XLR outputs
• 36mm pole socket for mounting a top speaker above the sub

Tunings and phase alignment

A Speaker Use control provides selectable EQ tunings, including Live and DJ voicings alongside an off position for a custom setting, so the sub can be matched to the programme material and to TS4 tops running Alto’s recommended pairing. A phase alignment switch with 0, 90, 180 and 270 degree positions helps the sub and tops add together constructively at the crossover region instead of cancelling, which is one of the most common causes of thin bass in portable systems. A proximity control and a signal and clip limiter LED round out the rear-panel tools, with volume and power controls kept simple for fast setup at a venue.

Connections, cabinet and protection

Two combination XLR and quarter-inch TRS inputs accept a stereo feed from a mixer, and two XLR outputs pass the signal onward to the top cabinets. The internally braced MDF enclosure is front-ported, finished in a mark-resistant splatter-spray coating, and fitted with side handles and a 36mm pole socket on the top panel so a full-range speaker can be mounted directly above it. Electronic clip, thermal and transducer overdrive protection guard the amplifier and driver during long, loud sessions. The cabinet measures 454.7 x 459.7 x 505.5mm and weighs 25.9kg, and power is via a standard IEC input accepting 100 to 120V or 220 to 240V AC supplies.
