Adept Audio IWLCR56 In-Wall Speaker

Adept Audio IWLCR56 In-Wall Speaker

The Adept Audio IWLCR56 is an in-wall LCR loudspeaker designed to give small and mid-size rooms a complete home theatre front stage without a single speaker standing on the floor. Each unit carries dual 5 inch woofers in Injection-Moulded Graphite and a 1 inch pivoting aluminium-dome tweeter, and the same speaker serves as the left, centre or right channel, or as a surround, mounted either vertically or horizontally. Adept voices the IWLCR56 to keep a consistent sound in both orientations, and to blend with the larger IWLCR66 and with Adept ceiling speakers in mixed installations. Power handling is 100 watts, sensitivity is 90 dB, and the 8 ohm impedance suits ordinary AV receivers. Once installed, only the slim, magnetically attached grille shows, and it can be painted to match the wall.

Key features

• Dual 5 inch Injection-Moulded Graphite (IMG) woofers for bass weight and clear midrange
• 1 inch pivoting aluminium-dome tweeter that aims dialogue at the listening position
• One model covers left, centre, right and surround duties
• Consistent voicing mounted horizontally or vertically
• 100 W power handling, 90 dB sensitivity, 8 ohm impedance
• Screw mounting with a magnetically attached, paintable grille
• Voiced to blend with Adept IWLCR66 and Adept ceiling speakers
• Backed by Adept Audio’s limited lifetime warranty

Driver design

Injection-Moulded Graphite is stiff and light, so the twin 5 inch cones stay controlled under motion, delivering bass that is firmer than their size suggests and midrange that keeps voices natural. The aluminium-dome tweeter pivots, which matters most for the centre channel: dialogue can be angled down or up toward the seats rather than firing straight at the wall opposite. Crossover tuning holds the tonal balance together when the speaker is turned sideways for centre duty under or over a screen, so a three-speaker front array sounds like one system instead of three separate boxes.

Where it fits

The IWLCR56 is the smaller of Adept’s two in-wall LCR models and is aimed at dens, bedrooms and secondary media rooms, and at living rooms where floor space or interior design rules out cabinet speakers. Three units build the front stage; further units can serve as surrounds, and the speaker can equally run as an in-wall stereo pair for music. A subwoofer remains the sensible partner for full-range movie soundtracks, since the response reaches to 60 Hz.

Installation

The cut-out measures 6 5/8 x 14 3/8 inches (168 x 364 mm) and the mounting depth is 3 3/8 inches (85 mm) per the manufacturer’s installation manual, so standard stud-wall cavities accommodate it. The grille’s outside dimensions are 7 7/8 x 15 5/8 inches (200 x 396 mm). Installation is a matter of cutting to the template, connecting standard two-wire speaker cable (CL3-rated cable is recommended for in-wall runs), tightening the mounting screws until the dogs grip, aiming the tweeter and pressing the grille onto its magnets. Verify the cut-out and cavity depth against the supplied template before cutting.

Sold individually, the IWLCR56 lets an installer build exactly the channel count a room needs, and its lifetime warranty reflects that Adept expects it to stay in the wall for the long term.
