Gallo Acoustics Micro Speaker (Matt White)

Gallo Acoustics Micro Speaker (Matt White)

The Gallo Acoustics Micro is the original spherical satellite loudspeaker: a 4-inch all-metal sphere housing a single 3-inch full-range driver, with no crossover and no cabinet resonances to colour the sound. In Matt White it disappears against pale walls and ceilings while delivering the coherence that only a single point source can produce — which is why the Micro has been a design-led hi-fi and home cinema staple for over two decades.

Key features

• 4-inch spherical all-metal enclosure — no parallel walls, no cabinet colouration
• Single 3-inch full-range driver with no crossover
• Frequency response of 100 Hz to 18 kHz (±3 dB, on wall)
• 88 dB sensitivity with up to 100 W power handling
• 8 ohm nominal impedance — an easy load for any amplifier
• Wall, ceiling, stand and table mounting options
• Matt White finish within the eleven-colour Micro range

Why a sphere

A conventional box has parallel internal walls that reflect energy back at the driver and edges that diffract sound at the listener. A sphere has neither. The Micro’s enclosure shape, combined with Gallo’s S2 internal damping technology, produces a smooth, uncoloured midrange and the kind of imaging that makes a pair of satellites vanish into a soundstage far larger than their physical size.

One driver, no crossover

With a single driver covering 100 Hz upward, there is no crossover network to shift phase between woofer and tweeter — voices and instruments arrive as one event. Below 100 Hz, pair the Micros with a subwoofer such as Gallo’s own ProfileSub or TR series, using the amplifier’s bass management, and the system covers the full range.

Placement freedom

At about half a kilogram, the Micro mounts almost anywhere: on wall brackets, ceiling mounts, Gallo’s floor stands or simply on a shelf. Five-way binding posts at the rear accept standard speaker cable. In Matt White against a light wall, a 5.1 system of Micros is close to invisible.

Building a system around Micros

A stereo pair with a subwoofer crossed over around 100-120 Hz makes a desktop or living-room system that embarrasses many floorstanders on coherence. Five Micros plus a subwoofer build a home cinema that guests hear long before they can find the speakers. Gallo’s own stands, wall and ceiling mounts, and the eleven-colour range mean the system can match a room rather than decorate around itself. Because the Micro has been in production for decades, adding channels years later still matches the speakers you bought first — a rare property in consumer audio.

Choose the Micro in Matt White if you want real hi-fi coherence from a speaker the size of a grapefruit — the design classic that proved small satellites could be serious loudspeakers.
