Amplification considerations

Because the AC118S is passive, amplifier choice is part of the specification. An amplifier comfortably able to deliver the subwoofer’s program power into 8 ohms, with appropriate limiting set in the processor, protects both the driver and the sound quality. Running an undersized amplifier into clipping is a common cause of driver failure in subwoofers, and it also audibly compresses the very dynamics the subwoofer was installed to provide.
