Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore Chestnut Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore Chestnut Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore is a portable Bluetooth speaker built for the outdoors, and this Chestnut finish gives the rugged design a warm, leather-toned character. The cylindrical body is made from Type II anodised aluminium, polymer and fabric, with a scratch-resistant shell and an interior structure designed to withstand drops of up to 1.5 metres. At 631 g (637 g with the integrated aluminium carabiner fitted) and just 81 x 124 x 81 mm, it is sized to be grabbed, clipped to a backpack and carried without thought.

Inside, two 1.8-inch full-range drivers are each driven by a 30 W Class D amplifier, 60 W in total, and the arrangement radiates sound in a full 360-degree pattern. That omnidirectional output is the right behaviour outdoors and around a table: everyone hears the same balance wherever they sit, and the speaker does not need aiming. Frequency range is 56 to 22,700 Hz and maximum output is 91 dB SPL at 1 metre — a substantial figure for a speaker of this size, with a midrange and bass presence that belies the compact cabinet.

Built for Weather and Rough Handling

The IP67 rating means the Explore is sealed against dust and against immersion in fresh water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes under test conditions, so rain, splashes and sandy environments are within its working brief. The hard anodised aluminium outer shell resists scratches from keys, stones and pack hardware, and the top-panel controls are designed to remain usable with wet or dirty hands. It is worth treating the rating correctly: IP67 describes defined freshwater test conditions, and the speaker should be dried after wet use and kept within the manufacturer’s care guidance.

Battery, Pairing and App Control

The 2,400 mAh lithium-ion battery delivers up to 27 hours at typical listening volumes and recharges in about 2 hours over USB-C. Bluetooth 5.2 supports multipoint connection to two devices, and Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and Made for iPhone certification simplify setup across platforms. Two Explore speakers can be stereo paired for a wider image at a campsite or terrace, and the Bang & Olufsen app provides EQ presets, custom equalisation through Beosonic-style tuning and firmware updates.

Where the Explore Fits

The Explore is the speaker for hiking, camping, beach days, garden work and travel — anywhere a mains speaker cannot go and a fragile one should not. Bang & Olufsen rates it for spaces of roughly 5 to 30 square metres, and the carabiner lets it hang from a branch, tent loop or pack strap to lift the sound off the ground.
