Denon AVC-X3800H 9.4-Channel AV Receiver

Denon AVC-X3800H 9.4-Channel AV Receiver – 9 Channels of Power, 11.4 Channels of Processing

The Denon AVC-X3800H is a 9.4-channel AV amplifier built for serious home cinema systems that need headroom to grow. Nine channels of amplification rated at 105 watts per channel into 8 ohms drive the main room directly, while 11.4-channel processing and four independent subwoofer outputs let the system expand to a 7.4.4 layout with an external stereo amplifier. It is the AVC variant, so there is no built-in radio tuner; the focus is entirely on film, gaming and streamed music performance. Six HDMI inputs, all with 8K and 4K/120Hz support, make it a modern switching hub for consoles, media players and disc players, and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction is included to tune the system to the room it actually plays in.

Key features

• 9 channels of amplification at 105 W per channel into 8 ohms (20 Hz to 20 kHz, 0.08 percent THD, 2 channels driven)
• 11.4-channel processing with 11.4-channel pre-amplifier outputs for external power amplification
• Four independent subwoofer outputs for even bass across multiple seats
• Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D immersive audio decoding
• Six HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs with 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through
• Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction with optional Dirac Live upgrade
• HEOS built-in streaming with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth send and receive

Power and processing headroom

Nine discrete amplifier channels cover a 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 layout without help, and the 11.4-channel processor section means the ceiling of the system is not the receiver itself. Add a two-channel power amplifier later and the same unit runs a full 7.4.4 system. Each of the four subwoofer outputs is independent, so level and delay can be set per subwoofer rather than treating four cabinets as one. That matters in real rooms, where multiple subwoofers placed well and calibrated individually produce smoother bass at every seat than a single larger unit. The full pre-amplifier mode and per-channel amplifier disconnect also let critical front channels be handed to external amplification for a cleaner signal path.

Immersive audio and room correction

Decoding covers Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D, plus Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmixing for older soundtracks. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 measures the room with the supplied microphone and corrects frequency response for speakers and subwoofers, supported by Audyssey Sub EQ HT, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Two speaker presets store separate Audyssey and configuration settings, so a film setup and a music setup can be recalled without re-measuring. Owners who want to go further can add the optional Dirac Live room correction upgrade.

8K video and gaming

All six HDMI inputs and two of the three outputs support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz signals, with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Hybrid Log Gamma and Dynamic HDR pass-through. Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport support low-lag gaming from current consoles and PCs, and eARC returns full-quality audio from a connected television. A third HDMI output serves Zone 2, so a second screen can show a different source.

Streaming and everyday use

HEOS built-in handles network music playback, including high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD 5.6 MHz, alongside AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, internet radio and Bluetooth transmission to wireless headphones for late-night listening. Analogue inputs include a moving-magnet phono stage for a turntable, and powered Zone 2 plus line-level multi-room outputs extend music beyond the main room. For a system planned to grow over several years, the AVC-X3800H provides the channels, processing and calibration to remain at the centre of it.
