Why Choose Focal ASTRAL 16 16-Channel AV Processor and Amplifier?

A single-box processor-amplifier removes racks of separates and their cabling. Dirac Live corrects the room rather than leaving the sound to chance, the Class D stages deliver around 200 watts per channel without the heat of a large linear amplifier, and the format support covers every current immersive soundtrack.

Key Features

• 16 channels: 12 amplified Class D channels plus 4 balanced XLR pre-outs for large immersive layouts.
• Immersive formats: Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D decoding for current cinema soundtracks.
• Dirac Live: room correction that measures and corrects the room’s acoustics at the listening position.
• High-resolution audio: processing up to 192 kHz for high-resolution music and soundtrack sources.
• Full HDMI switching: 7 HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 inputs and 2 outputs, plus coaxial and optical digital inputs.
• Around 200 W per channel: Pascal Class D amplification with headroom for demanding theatre speakers.

Best Suited For

Dedicated home theatres and large media rooms running 9, 11 or more channels, where one processor-amplifier should drive the whole system. That is the buyer the Focal ASTRAL 16 16-Channel AV Processor and Amplifier is built for.

Setup and Connection Guide

Rack-mount the unit with ventilation, connect sources to the HDMI inputs and the display to an HDMI output, wire speakers to the amplified channels and any extra channels to the XLR pre-outs, then run Dirac Live calibration with the supplied microphone before first use. Once connected, the Focal ASTRAL 16 16-Channel AV Processor and Amplifier is ready for its first session.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many speakers can the Focal ASTRAL 16 16-Channel AV Processor and Amplifier drive on its own?

Twelve channels are amplified internally; four more channels are available on balanced XLR pre-outs for external amplifiers, giving 16 channels in total.

Does it support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X?

Yes, along with Auro-3D, so it covers the three main immersive formats.

What is Dirac Live?

Dirac Live is a room-correction system that measures the room with a microphone and corrects frequency and timing errors at the listening position.
