Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel THX Certified Network AV Receiver

Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2-Channel THX Certified Network AV Receiver – Reference-Level Film Sound

The Onkyo TX-NR6100 is a 7.2-channel network AV receiver built around THX Certified Select performance, which means it is tested to reproduce film soundtracks at reference level in rooms of up to about 2,000 cubic feet. Seven channels of Dynamic Audio Amplification deliver 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, enough for a full 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos layout or a 7.2 surround system with two subwoofers. Six HDMI inputs with 8K and 4K/120Hz support on the main inputs handle current consoles and media players, while built-in streaming covers Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, DTS Play-Fi and Works with Sonos. It is a complete switching, amplification and streaming centre for a dedicated media room or a large living-room system.

• Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding for 5.2.2 height-channel layouts
• HDMI 2.1 with 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through, HDR10+ and eARC
• AccuEQ room calibration with AccuReflex for Atmos-enabled speakers
• Streaming via Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, DTS Play-Fi and Spotify Connect
• Bi-directional Bluetooth with aptX and aptX HD, plus Works with Sonos certification

THX Certified amplification

THX certification is not a badge applied at the factory door. Each design passes laboratory testing for output, distortion and noise before the logo is granted, and the TX-NR6100 pairs that amplifier section with Onkyo’s Dynamic Audio Amplification design for high current delivery into speaker loads from 4 to 16 ohms. Dynamic power reaches 240 watts into 3 ohms on the front channels, which is the headroom that keeps action soundtracks composed at high volume. THX listening modes apply reference equalisation for movies, music and games, and the receiver’s signal-to-noise ratio of 106 dB on line inputs keeps quiet passages clean.

Immersive sound and calibration

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding supports a 5.2.2 layout with height or Atmos-enabled speakers, and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer and DTS Virtual:X can create a three-dimensional effect from a conventional speaker layout. AccuEQ calibration measures the room and sets distance, level and crossover for each speaker, while AccuReflex aligns the phase of Atmos-enabled up-firing speakers with direct sound. Two subwoofer pre-outs support the dual-subwoofer configuration that evens out bass across a seating row.

Video, gaming and second zones

Three HDMI inputs carry the 40 Gbps HDMI 2.1 feature set, including 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through, Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport for gaming. HDR support covers HDR10+ alongside the standard formats, and eARC returns lossless audio from the television. An HDMI Sub/Zone 2 output feeds a second display, and powered Zone 2 speaker terminals allow a 5.2-channel main room plus stereo in another room, with a Zone 2/Zone B line-out for further expansion.

Streaming and control

The SMART AV Receiver platform brings Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, DTS Play-Fi multi-room audio and support for Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. A moving-magnet phono input covers turntables, and bi-directional Bluetooth both receives music from a phone and transmits to wireless headphones, including 24-bit aptX HD. For a home theatre that has to serve films, games and daily music from one unit, the TX-NR6100 covers all three without separate boxes.
