Audio-Technica ATDM-0604a Digital SmartMixer – Six-Input Automatic Mixer for Conferencing

The Audio-Technica ATDM-0604a is a digital automatic mixer designed for meeting rooms, classrooms and lecture spaces where several microphones must stay open without feedback, noise build-up or an operator riding faders. Its SmartMixer engine mixes six mic/line inputs automatically, using either gain sharing, which divides gain smoothly between active microphones, or gate mode, which switches channels on and off. The result is consistent speech levels whether one person is presenting or a whole table is in discussion.

All six inputs accept mic or line level signals and carry a full channel strip: a high-performance echo canceler on every input channel, a 4-band EQ and a compressor/de-esser. Acoustic echo cancellation matters because the same loudspeakers that play remote participants also sit near the microphones; cancelling that loop per channel is what keeps hybrid meetings intelligible at both ends. Noise cancellation can be assigned to any output channel to clean up the feed sent to a recording or a video conference.

Output processing and feedback control

Each output channel carries its own 12-band parametric EQ, compressor and limiter, so the signal feeding the room speakers, the conference codec and a recorder can each be shaped appropriately. Feedback is handled by eight 8-band feedback suppressors that can be assigned to mic/line inputs or any output channel, a practical safeguard in rooms with ceiling microphones and reflective surfaces. A GPO terminal provides remote LED control of Audio-Technica’s ES954 hanging microphone arrays, so participants can see microphone status at the array itself.

Control, expansion and integration

Basic input and output settings can be configured from the front panel without a computer. For full setup, the Web Remote interface and Smart Mixer Manager software expose the advanced processing, and IP protocol-based external control allows integration with room control systems. The mixer is also compatible with Barco ClickShare Conference. Where a room outgrows six microphones, dedicated Audio-Technica LINK terminals cascade up to eight ATDM-0604a units over Cat5e cable, sharing audio buses and SmartMix control for as many as 48 microphones in one system.

Presets can be stored and recalled for different room layouts, so a space that switches between boardroom, training and video-conference setups can return to known, tested settings in seconds rather than being re-tuned each time.
