Description
MX XLR Male to Female Cable (5m)
The MX XLR male to female cable in 5 metre length is the standard balanced interconnect of live sound and studio work. One end carries a male 3-pin XLR, the other a female 3-pin XLR, so it drops straight into the most common signal chain in audio: microphone to mixer, mixer to powered speaker, or stage box to console. Balanced wiring is the reason this format has survived for decades in professional rigs. The signal travels as a pair, and interference picked up along the run, hum from mains wiring, buzz from lighting dimmers and RF noise, is cancelled at the receiving input. On real stages and in real halls, that noise rejection is the difference between a clean vocal and a distracting hum under everything.
Key features
- Standard 3-pin XLR male to XLR female configuration
- Balanced connection for hum and noise rejection
- 5 metre length for small stages, studios and halls
- Locking connectors that click in and stay seated
- Suitable for microphones, mixers, powered speakers and stage boxes
- MX build for everyday professional use
Balanced audio, explained plainly
An unbalanced cable carries the signal on one conductor and uses the shield as the return, so any interference the cable picks up is added directly to what you hear. A balanced XLR connection sends the signal on two conductors in opposite polarity. Both pick up roughly the same interference along the cable run, and the input stage subtracts one from the other: the interference cancels, the signal doubles back to full level. That is why long runs beside mains cables and lighting rigs are the natural home of XLR, and why mixers, audio interfaces and powered speakers provide balanced XLR inputs and outputs. It is also why phantom power for condenser microphones travels down the same 3-pin connection. Choosing balanced cabling is the simplest sound-quality upgrade in any rig that supports it.
Five metres: the working length
Five metres covers the distances that come up most often. A vocal microphone to a mixer at the side of a small stage, a powered speaker fed from a console across a rehearsal room, a podcast or recording setup where the microphone sits away from computer fan noise: all sit comfortably inside 5 metres with enough slack for sensible routing. Slack matters, because a cable pulled drum-tight strains connectors and becomes a trip hazard, while sensible loops at each end keep the run tidy and safe. For longer distances, XLR cables can be joined end to end, since the female-to-male format chains naturally, though a single run of the right length is always the cleaner solution. Five metres is the length most working kits standardise on for exactly this balance of reach and manageability.
Locking connectors and daily reliability
XLR connectors latch. The female end locks onto the male with a positive click and releases only when the latch is pressed, so a cable cannot drift out of a microphone mid-performance or be tugged loose by a passing foot. That mechanical security, combined with the large, easy-to-grip housings, is why XLR remains the connector of choice where connections are made and broken daily. MX has built its name in the Indian pro-audio market on dependable everyday cabling and connectors of exactly this kind: the parts of a rig that nobody applauds and everybody depends on. A cable that connects cleanly every time, show after show, is worth more than any specification headline.
Care, storage and use
Coil the cable in loose over-under loops rather than wrapping it around your arm, which twists the internal pairs and shortens cable life. Keep runs away from sharp stage edges, route them flat with tape or cable covers where people walk, and never pull a connector out by the cable itself; press the latch and grip the housing. Store it dry and untangled with the rest of the kit. Whether it links a single microphone to a mixer in a school hall or forms part of a full stage loom, this MX 5 metre XLR lead covers the most common balanced connection in audio, in the length working rigs reach for first.
