The Sennheiser A 1031-U is a passive, omnidirectional UHF antenna for Sennheiser wireless microphone and monitoring systems. Omnidirectional coverage

The A 1031-U receives and transmits in a torus, or donut-shaped, pattern around the antenna, with an apex angle of 360 degrees and deviation from circular radiation of less than 3 dB. Gain is rated at 0 dB. Omnidirectional coverage is the right choice when performers or presenters move around a stage or room, or when transmitters approach from several directions, because the antenna does not need to be aimed at a single zone. In a diversity receiver system, a pair of remote omnidirectional antennas, spaced and positioned with a clear view of the performance area, is the standard way to reduce dropouts caused by reflections and obstructed paths.

Frequency range and compatibility

Sennheiser’s product sheet specifies a frequency range of 430 to 960 MHz, covering the UHF bands used by its stationary evolution wireless receivers and earlier professional receivers including the EM 3031-U, EM 3032-U, EM 3532-U, EM 1046-U and EM 1031-U series. As a transmitting antenna it is suitable for UHF transmitters with a maximum RF output power of 10 W. Because the antenna is passive and wideband, it introduces no gain of its own and requires no powering through the cable, which keeps installation simple. Users must still operate their wireless systems only on frequencies permitted in their country and region.

Connection and mounting

Connection is through a BNC socket with 50 ohm impedance, using standard 50 ohm coaxial antenna cable. A swivel joint allows the antenna to be attached to a mounting plate such as the GZP 10 and positioned exactly for optimum coverage, and the mounting connection is a 5/8-inch thread with an adapter to 3/8 inch for microphone stands. The antenna measures approximately 270 mm by 130 mm by 35 mm and weighs approximately 150 g, so it adds little load to a stand. Its specified temperature range is -20 to +80 degrees Celsius, with maximum humidity of 95 percent.

Typical applications include live music venues, theatres, houses of worship, conference and event spaces, broadcast and installed sound systems where receiver racks are positioned away from the stage, and multi-channel wireless setups using antenna splitters.
