AKG D112 MKII Dynamic Bass Drum Microphone
AKG D112 MKII is a large-diaphragm dynamic microphone for kick drums and bass cabinets. A shaped response combines low-frequency weight with the attack needed to distinguish a beat in a busy mix, while the integrated flexible mount helps with positioning around drum hardware.
Why Choose AKG D112 MKII?
Move the microphone towards the beater for more attack or towards the drum opening for a different balance of body and resonance. Position is a useful first adjustment before adding substantial equalisation.
Key Features
- Dynamic diaphragm: designed for close pickup of powerful bass instruments.
- Flexible integrated mount: helps aim the capsule in tight spaces.
- High sound-pressure handling: suited to loud sources with correct preamp gain.
- Presence shaping: helps separate the initial strike from sustained bass.
Best Suited For
Live sound, rehearsal rooms and recording setups with a suitable microphone preamp.
Setup and Connection Guide
Connect the XLR output to a microphone input, begin with the channel level down and set gain while the source performs at its loudest expected level. Listen for clipping and unwanted room pickup before adding EQ. Keep speakers out of the main pickup direction and secure cables so movement does not pull on the connector.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it intended for vocals?
It can capture a voice, but its intended role is bass-instrument and kick-drum pickup. For handheld singing, compare a dedicated vocal microphone such as the AKG D5.
What else do I need?
Plan a suitable XLR cable, a microphone input and any stand or clip required by the position. A computer needs an audio interface; a microphone alone does not amplify sound into a room.
How should I choose the microphone position?
Start with a consistent working distance, listen through the actual system and make small position changes. A closer placement changes the balance of direct sound, room pickup and low frequencies.
