Ahuja SAX-200DX Speaker

Ahuja SAX-200DX Speaker

The Ahuja SAX-200DX is a two-way PA cabinet loudspeaker for sound reinforcement, rated by Ahuja at 200 watts RMS with a 400 watt programme capacity. It combines a high-efficiency 12-inch low-frequency speaker with a high-frequency compression driver in a bass-reflex trapezoidal enclosure built from 18 mm board and finished in carpet. This is a working public-address speaker in the classic Ahuja mould: high sound pressure levels, accurate reproduction for both speech and music, and a cabinet built to be transported, stand-mounted and used in halls, venues and outdoor functions where a compact hi-fi speaker would simply not produce enough level.

Key features

• 200 W RMS power rating, 400 W programme, as per the Ahuja datasheet
• Two-way design: 12-inch LF speaker and HF compression driver
• Frequency response of 45 Hz to 20,000 Hz
• 97 dB sound pressure level at 1 W, 1 metre
• Bass-reflex trapezoidal enclosure in 18 mm board, carpet covered
• Stand adapter at the base for pole or stand mounting, 8 ohm impedance

Power rating, stated correctly

Ahuja publishes the SAX-200DX at 200 watts RMS and 400 watts programme, and those are the figures that matter when matching an amplifier. The number in the model name is a series designation, not a shortcut for the rating; the datasheet figures are the ones to use. An amplifier in the region of the speaker’s RMS rating, run without clipping, is the correct partner. Programme rating describes the speaker’s capacity with normal music and speech material, whose peaks sit well above its average level, which is why the programme figure is double the continuous RMS figure. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, the standard load for PA amplifier channels.

Output and coverage

With a rated sensitivity of 97 dB at 1 watt measured at 1 metre, the SAX-200DX is an efficient speaker: it reaches high sound pressure levels without demanding extreme amplifier power, which is exactly what speech reinforcement in a hall or a function space requires. The rated frequency response of 45 Hz to 20,000 Hz covers the full range of voice and music material. The trapezoidal cabinet shape is functional, not decorative: angled sides reduce internal standing waves and box resonance for smoother low-frequency performance, and the shape also lets cabinets sit naturally angled when used as part of a small array or as floor monitors.

Cabinet and mounting

The enclosure is a rugged bass-reflex design made from 18 mm board and covered in carpet, the traditional finish for working PA cabinets because it shrugs off the scuffs of transport and storage better than paint or vinyl. A stand adapter is fitted at the bottom, so the cabinet mounts on a standard speaker stand to get the high-frequency driver up to ear height and over the heads of an audience, which is where a PA speaker does its best work. The cabinet measures W 510 x H 655 x D 405 mm and weighs 25.50 kg, substantial enough to stay put in use and manageable for a two-person load-in.

Applications

Ahuja describes this class of cabinet as producing high sound pressure levels with accuracy in any environment, for PA and music performance alike. Typical work includes announcements and music in halls and houses of worship, school and community functions, live music reinforcement for small venues, and DJ and event use where speech clarity and level matter as much as bass weight.

For buyers who need a proven, stand-mountable PA cabinet with honest datasheet ratings, the SAX-200DX is Ahuja’s 200-watt two-way answer.
