Edifier B700 Dolby Atmos Soundbar

Edifier B700 Dolby Atmos Soundbar

The Edifier B700 is a true 5.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar system: a single 850mm bar carrying the front three channels, side surround channels and a pair of angled up-firing height drivers, plus a separate 8-inch wireless subwoofer for the low-frequency channel. Total system power is 175W RMS – 15W to each of the seven bar channels and 70W to the subwoofer – enough to fill rooms of around 50 square metres with cinema-scale sound.

Because every channel is physically present rather than simulated, Atmos effects are placed where the mix intends them: dialogue anchored to the centre, surrounds wrapping from the sides of the bar itself, and height effects reflecting off the ceiling from the up-firing drivers.

How the 5.1.2 Layout Works

A conventional soundbar bounces or simulates surround. The B700 instead packs separate drivers into one enclosure: front left, centre and right for the screen image; racetrack-shaped surround drivers that use a larger vibration area without adding cabinet height; and two full-range units angled upward that reflect height information off the ceiling, creating the top layer of the Atmos sound field. The subwoofer crosses over on a dedicated 5.8GHz wireless link with strong interference resistance, so it can sit wherever the room’s bass sounds best rather than wherever a cable reaches.

Connections and Control

One HDMI cable to an eARC-equipped TV carries uncompressed Atmos from the TV’s apps and inputs, while two further HDMI inputs take a Blu-ray player, console or set-top box directly, with 4K HDR video passed through to the screen. Optical, coaxial and AUX cover older TVs and audio sources, and Bluetooth handles music from a phone. The infrared remote switches power, volume, input and the four sound modes, and a front LED display shows mode and status at a glance.

Where the B700 Fits

The B700 suits living rooms that want genuine Atmos immersion without five separate speakers and an AV receiver: flat-screen TV upgrades, streaming-movie setups and gaming rooms where HDMI 2.1 passthrough matters.
