JBL Control 1 Pro Compact Speakers

JBL Control 1 Pro – Compact 2-Way Professional Loudspeakers (Pair)

The JBL Control 1 Pro is a compact two-way loudspeaker from JBL Professional’s long-running Control Series, a range that has been the default answer for small monitoring and installed-sound jobs for decades. Each cabinet combines a 135 mm (5.25 inch) low-frequency driver with a 19 mm (0.75 inch) polycarbonate dome tweeter, fed by a professional crossover network with steep slopes that keep the sound consistent across the listening area. The speakers are passive, connect to any suitable amplifier through spring-loaded terminals, and are sold and used as a stereo pair.

Key features

• 150 W continuous power handling per speaker (IEC full-bandwidth pink noise)
• 135 mm (5.25 inch) woofer and 19 mm (0.75 inch) polycarbonate dome tweeter
• Magnetically shielded transducers, safe to place next to video and computer monitors
• SonicGuard overload protection limits power to protect the drivers and crossover network
• Moulded polypropylene structural foam enclosure for low resonance and everyday durability
• Wall-mount bracket assembly included, with ball-joint adjustment to aim each speaker
• Maximum output of 108 dB continuous, 114 dB peak per speaker

Monitoring accuracy in a small cabinet

Small speakers often boost the bass and treble to sound impressive on first listen. The Control 1 Pro does the opposite: its 100 Hz – 18 kHz response (within 3 dB) and 87 dB sensitivity are tuned for a clear, honest presentation, which is why the model keeps turning up in recording studios, video post-production rooms, OB vans and broadcast facilities. Dialogue, voice-overs and programme material stay intelligible at low volume, and the controlled directivity (directivity index of 7.8 dB) helps the sound stay focused in rooms that are not acoustically treated.

One pair, many jobs

The same qualities that make the Control 1 Pro a dependable near-field monitor also suit it to foreground music and paging in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, classrooms and houses of worship. At 1.8 kg per cabinet it is easy to handle on a ladder, and the foam enclosure shrugs off the knocks that installed speakers collect over years of service. A 4.2 kHz crossover keeps the handover between woofer and tweeter out of the most sensitive part of the vocal range.

Mounting and protection

A bracket assembly is included in the box, and the ball joint lets you tilt and swivel the speaker toward the listening area after it is fixed to the wall. Optional heavy-duty brackets extend the mounting options to ceilings and larger installs. SonicGuard protection works quietly in the background: if the amplifier is driven too hard, power to the transducers is limited before damage occurs, which matters in commercial spaces where volume controls are within everyone’s reach.

If you need a compact passive pair that can monitor at a desk, cover a café, or run for years in an installation without attention, the Control 1 Pro remains one of the safest choices in its class.
