The 702 S3 is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker of the Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series, listed here in the White finish. It is a passive three-way design with a Carbon Dome tweeter in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing, a dedicated Continuum FST midrange driver and three Aerofoil Profile bass drivers – the largest driver complement in the range, built for full-scale stereo and front-channel cinema duty.

The White finish changes the presentation, not the engineering: this is the same flagship specification in a lighter cabinet colour for brighter rooms.

The flagship driver layout

Three separate drive systems divide the work. The tweeter handles only high frequencies from its isolated top housing. The 150 mm midrange, decoupled from the cabinet and using FST surround-less construction with Biomimetic Suspension, covers the vocal band without interference from bass energy. Three 165 mm Aerofoil Profile bass drivers share the low-frequency load, so each cone moves less for a given output – the recipe for bass that stays controlled at cinema levels.

Scale without strain

With a frequency response of 46 Hz to 28 kHz (plus or minus 3 dB) and a range extending from 28 Hz to 33 kHz, the 702 S3 reproduces most music full-range without a subwoofer. Sensitivity of 90 dB means it reaches generous levels from quality amplification, while the recommended range up to 300 watts into 8 ohms reflects its capacity to use serious power cleanly. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms with a 3.1 ohm minimum, so choose an amplifier comfortable with that dip.

Placement in real rooms

The 702 S3 stands 1138 mm tall including tweeter and plinth and weighs 33.46 kg, so plan the footprint, the rear clearance for the Flowport and the distance to the listening seat before the speakers arrive. Symmetrical placement, firm spike contact and small toe-in adjustments make a larger difference here than any cable change.
