Adept Audio IW62 Speaker

Adept Audio IW62: 6.5-Inch In-Wall Speaker for Clean Stereo and Surround Sound

The Adept Audio IW62 is a two-way in-wall loudspeaker built for rooms where the sound should be heard and the speakers should not. A 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer and a 1-inch pivoting silk-dome tweeter sit behind a frameless, paintable grille that all but disappears against the wall, while the performance figures are honest custom-install numbers: 150 watts of power handling, 90 dB sensitivity and a 45 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range.

It suits stereo pairs in living spaces, front or surround channels in a home theatre, and distributed-audio zones where a tidy finish matters as much as the sound. The IW62 is sold as a single speaker, so order two for a stereo pair or the exact channel count your system needs.

Key features

• 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer for controlled, durable bass and midrange
• 1-inch pivoting silk-dome tweeter that can be aimed at the listening area
• 150 W power handling with a 6-ohm nominal impedance
• 90 dB sensitivity, so modest amplifiers reach comfortable levels
• 45 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range for full-range music and film sound
• Frameless magnetic grille, paintable to match the wall
• Compact cut-out of 186 by 283 mm and a shallow 85 mm mounting depth

Drivers chosen for in-wall duty

A polypropylene cone suits in-wall life well: it is light, stiff for its weight and indifferent to the humidity swings that wall cavities can see, and here it covers everything from bass lines to the heart of the vocal range. Above it, a silk-dome tweeter keeps high frequencies smooth rather than splashy, and because the dome pivots, the installer can angle it toward the seating instead of firing straight out of the wall, which sharpens imaging in rooms where the speakers cannot sit in textbook positions.

Easy to drive, easy to place

At 90 dB sensitivity, the IW62 reaches satisfying levels without a powerhouse amplifier, and its 150-watt handling leaves headroom for film peaks. The 6-ohm nominal load is an easy match for AV receivers and multi-zone amplifiers alike. For a theatre, IW62s work across the front stage or as surrounds, and they pair naturally with other Adept in-wall and in-ceiling models in a larger system.

Installation notes

The speaker needs a cut-out of 186 by 283 millimetres and 85 millimetres of depth behind the surface, which fits standard stud walls. Dog-ear clamps secure it from behind, and the magnetic grille sits frameless and flush, ready to be painted with the wall for a near-invisible finish. No back box is included, so if sound leaking into the room behind is a concern, plan the cavity treatment with your installer before the wall is closed.

The IW62 is the sensible building block of an Adept system: verified, install-friendly specifications, a tweeter you can aim and a grille that vanishes. It asks little of the room and gives back clean, full-range sound.
