The Bose FreeSpace FS2SE is a compact surface-mount loudspeaker from Bose Professional’s FreeSpace FS range, designed for background music and paging in commercial spaces — including outdoors. A single 2.25-inch full-range driver covers a frequency response of 95 Hz to 16 kHz (-3 dB), with wide 145 x 140-degree nominal coverage that spreads sound evenly across a seating or retail area from few mounting points. Power handling is 16W long-term continuous (64W peak), with a calculated maximum output of 99 dB at 1 metre — sized for ambience and announcements rather than foreground playback.

For distributed installations, the FS2SE includes a multi-tap transformer: 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16W taps on a 70V line, 2 to 16W on 100V, plus a 16-ohm bypass position for low-impedance systems. That lets an installer run many speakers from one amplifier channel and set each speaker’s level by tap selection. The enclosure is engineered plastic with high UV fade resistance and an IP55 rating with a weather-resistant input cover, so the speaker is rated for outdoor use in wet locations — patios, pool decks, building exteriors. It is also UL 1480 / ULC-S541 listed for fire alarm and signalling use in life-safety applications.

Mounting and aiming

The included U-bracket mounts the speaker to a wall or ceiling and offers seven preset angles, so the installer can tilt the speaker toward the listening area rather than firing straight ahead — important for speech intelligibility from high mounts. Two rear M8 inserts also accept optional ceiling-mount and pan-and-tilt brackets, and a safety cable can be attached for overhead work. Connections are by a rear 6-pin Euroblock with loop-through, accepting 18 to 14 AWG wire, which suits daisy-chained 70/100V runs.

Voicing across the FS family

All FreeSpace FS models share a common voicing, so FS2SE surface speakers can be mixed with FS in-ceiling models in the same venue without tonal jumps between zones. Bose EQ voicing and SmartBass processing are available in Bose Professional amplifiers and processors, though no EQ is required for general use; a high-pass filter at 85 Hz is recommended to protect the small driver.
