Dali Alteco C1 Dolby Atmos Speaker (White)

Dali Alteco C1 Dolby Atmos Speaker (White)

The DALI Alteco C-1 is a compact multi-purpose loudspeaker from Danish manufacturer DALI, listed here in white and supplied as a pair, as DALI sells the model. Its angled cabinet and dual sound mode switch let one design serve several roles: place the pair on top of front or rear speakers as up-firing height speakers for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D systems, mount them high on a wall as down-firing front or surround speakers, or use them as compact on-wall stereo speakers. A 4.5-inch wood fibre cone woofer and a 21 mm soft textile dome tweeter, in a sealed enclosure, provide the DALI sound signature in a cabinet small enough to sit discreetly on top of an existing speaker.

Key features

• Dual sound mode switch: Front baffle switch selects up-firing or down-firing behaviour to suit the chosen position.
• Up-firing height channel: Angled baffle reflects height effects from the ceiling when placed on top of front or rear speakers.
• On-wall versatility: Also works mounted high on a wall, on a side wall, or as a surround speaker close to the listening position.
• Wood fibre cone woofer: 4.5-inch DALI wood fibre driver with low-loss rubber surround for detailed, low-distortion midrange and bass.
• 21 mm soft dome tweeter: Ultra-lightweight soft textile dome for open high frequencies without harshness.
• Sealed enclosure: Closed-box design keeps bass controlled and placement predictable in both operating modes.
• Sold as a pair: Matched left and right speakers for symmetrical height or surround installation, in a white finish.

Two speakers in one cabinet

Most height speakers do one job. The Alteco C-1 was designed around an angled front baffle and a switch that changes how the speaker is used. In the up position, the speaker sits on top of an existing loudspeaker and beams sound toward the ceiling, where it reflects down to the listening position as a height channel for immersive formats. Flick the switch to the down position and the same speaker, mounted high on a wall, angles its output down toward the listeners, working as a front-height, surround or rear speaker, or even as a near-field speaker for desktop listening. This flexibility means a pair bought for one role can be redeployed when a system layout changes, rather than replaced.

Drivers and sound character

DALI builds its own drivers, and the Alteco C-1 follows the company’s low-loss philosophy: minimise mechanical and electrical losses so fine detail survives, even at low listening levels. The wood fibre cone, formed from a mix of paper and wood fibres, has an uneven surface structure that reduces surface resonance, and it is paired with a low-loss rubber surround and spider suspension to reproduce small signal details accurately. The 21 mm soft textile dome tweeter uses a lightweight diaphragm for fast, open treble. Frequency range is 74 Hz to 26,000 Hz within plus or minus 3 dB, sensitivity is 83 dB at 2.83 V at 1 m, nominal impedance is 6 ohms and maximum SPL is 103 dB. The two-way crossover operates at 2,100 Hz, and DALI recommends amplifier power between 40 and 100 W.

Fitting the C-1 into a system

Connection is by single-wire spring-loaded push-button terminals, and rubber feet are included for stable placement on top of loudspeakers. Recommended distance from the wall is 1 to 100 cm, reflecting the range of positions the design supports. Each speaker measures 265 x 160 x 200 mm (H x W x D) and weighs 2.9 kg, light enough for wall mounting without heavy brackets. Tonally, the C-1 is voiced to integrate with DALI’s wider ranges, so it blends with DALI front and centre speakers in a home cinema, while its neutral balance also allows it to partner sensibly with other brands in the height role, where the AV receiver’s calibration handles level and distance matching.

In white, the Alteco C-1 suits pale interiors and light-coloured speaker systems where a black height module would stand out, keeping the visual impact of an immersive upgrade to a minimum while the sonic impact is anything but small.
