This is a pre-owned Gallo Acoustics Micro – the original high-end compact loudspeaker – finished in red. The Micro packs a genuine hi-fi driver into a 4-inch all-metal sphere, producing a soundstage and image focus that speakers many times its size struggle to match, in a form that can sit almost anywhere.

The spherical enclosure is not a styling exercise. A sphere is the strongest possible shape for a speaker cabinet, which eliminates internal resonance and external diffraction – the two main causes of loudspeaker distortion. Inside, a single 3-inch full-range driver with a mica polypropylene cone covers the range with no crossover at all, so there is no network between amplifier and driver to blur timing or phase. Gallo’s patented S2 fill technology extends the low-frequency performance well beyond what conventional satellite speakers achieve from this size of cabinet.

One speaker, many roles

Because a single driver covers the whole range, the Micro images with pinpoint precision and stays coherent at any listening distance. That makes it equally at home as a main speaker in a compact two-channel system, a satellite in a home cinema (where five identical Micros give perfectly matched channels), a desktop speaker for computer listening, or a discreet multi-room speaker. On a tabletop it responds from 120 Hz; wall, ceiling or stand mounting extends the low end to 100 Hz. Adding a subwoofer such as Gallo’s own RoomSub turns a pair into a full-range system.

Placement and pairing notes

At 795 g with a threaded insert on the back, the Micro mounts almost anywhere – Gallo floor stands, wall brackets and ceiling options all interface with it. It is an undemanding load: 8 ohms and 89 dB sensitivity mean ordinary AV receivers and modest amplifiers drive it comfortably, and Gallo’s S2 technology keeps current demand low, which flatters budget amplification. Cross over to a subwoofer around 100-120 Hz for the cleanest result in cinema use.
