Genelec 7370A Active Subwoofer – 12-Inch SAM Studio Subwoofer with GLM Calibration

The Genelec 7370A is a Smart Active Monitoring subwoofer built to extend Genelec studio systems to 19 Hz with control: a 12-inch driver in a Laminar Spiral Enclosure, driven by a 400 W Class D amplifier, with multichannel bass management for systems up to 7.1 and full GLM calibration. It is designed for music, post-production and broadcast rooms where low-frequency decisions have to translate outside the control room.

As a SAM subwoofer, the 7370A connects to Genelec’s GLM network and uses AutoCal to align its level, timing and room response with the main monitors. Seven analogue input and output channels plus an LFE channel, and AES/EBU digital input and output, let it sit at the centre of a bass-managed system in either the analogue or digital domain.

Low frequencies you can judge

Extension to 19 Hz matters because content below the reach of typical nearfields still ends up in mixes: sub-bass, room rumble and handling noise. The 7370A reproduces that region at up to 113 dB short-term SPL with low distortion, so engineers can fix problems instead of discovering them on a cinema system. The LSE spiral port supports that output cleanly.

Bass management and system integration

In a bass-managed setup the subwoofer handles low frequencies for all main channels, relieving the satellite monitors and improving headroom across the system. Centralised bass management applies an 85 Hz crossover, while GLM control allows distributed settings between 50 and 100 Hz. Analogue connections use balanced XLR for seven channels plus LFE, and a single-wire AES/EBU input and output carry digital audio at sample rates from 32 to 192 kHz, so the 7370A integrates with digital monitoring chains without extra conversion.

GLM calibration in the room

Subwoofers interact with the room more than any other speaker, which is why the 7370A is a SAM device. Using GLM software with a calibration kit or SAM reference controller, sold separately, AutoCal measures the system at the listening position and adjusts level, phase alignment and parametric notch filters, twenty per device, to compensate for room modes and placement. Phase matching can also be adjusted in fine steps under GLM control for precise integration with the mains.

Placement and practical use

At 48 kg and 625 x 555 x 496 mm, plan floor space before installation. Self-generated noise is under 5 dB, and ISS sensing drops consumption to under 1 W in standby. It pairs with larger Genelec SAM monitors in mid-sized and immersive rooms.
