The Polk Audio Signature Elite ES8 is a compact powered subwoofer built around an 8-inch front-firing woofer and a 100-watt continuous Class D amplifier. It is the smallest subwoofer in the Signature Elite range, intended for small and medium rooms where a large cabinet would dominate the space but the lowest octaves of film soundtracks and music still need proper support. Rather than relying on brute output, the ES8 uses digital signal processing, a front-facing Power Port and a braced cabinet to keep its bass clean, quick and controlled.

A subwoofer at this size has a specific job: take the low-frequency load off compact bookshelf or satellite speakers, reproduce the dedicated LFE channel of a movie mix, and do both without calling attention to itself. The 4th-order low-pass filter rolls off steeply, preventing overlap with the main speakers that would otherwise thicken voices and blur bass lines. Because both the woofer and the Power Port face forward, the ES8 is less fussy about placement than rear-ported designs; it can sit closer to a wall or inside a media unit’s open bay without the port being choked. Its footprint of roughly 325 mm wide by 386 mm deep suits apartment living rooms, bedrooms and media rooms where floor space is shared with furniture. Frequency response extends to 32 Hz at -3 dB, so film effects and electronic music retain genuine weight, while the top of its range reaches high enough to pair with small satellite speakers that need a higher crossover.
