SVS PB-1000 Pro Ported Subwoofer

SVS PB-1000 Pro – The Ported 12-Inch Subwoofer That Owns Its Class

The PB-1000 Pro is SVS’s ported 12-inch subwoofer, and it is the model that redefined expectations for attainable bass. A high-excursion driver with a dual ferrite magnet motor, driven by a 325-watt RMS Sledge STA-325D amplifier peaking at over 820 watts, works with a tuned ported cabinet to reach 17 Hz – deep enough that the lowest film effects are felt as much as heard.

Ported designs trade a little of a sealed box’s tightness for substantially more output and extension at the bottom octave, which is exactly where home cinema lives. The PB-1000 Pro keeps the trade honest with a rigid cabinet, a conservatively tuned port that stays silent under load, and full DSP control through the SVS app.

Why the port matters for movies

The last octave of a film soundtrack – roughly 17 to 35 Hz – is where explosions, spacecraft and scores stop sounding like bass and start feeling like pressure. A port reinforces the driver precisely in that region, so the PB-1000 Pro produces reference-level low effects from a cabinet and amplifier that would otherwise need to be far larger. For action cinema in medium rooms, this is the most cost-effective depth available.

Tuned from the listening seat

Through the SVS app, every control – volume, crossover, phase, polarity, room gain and a three-band parametric EQ – adjusts from the sofa over Bluetooth. That makes proper integration a ten-minute job: play familiar content, trim the peak the room adds, and save a movie preset and a music preset. It is control that entry-level subwoofers simply do not offer.

Who the PB-1000 Pro suits

Choose the PB-1000 Pro for home cinema first: small to medium theatre rooms and living-room systems where film impact is the priority and one subwoofer must do the work. Music listeners who prefer sealed control may look at the SB-1000 Pro; movie fans should start here.

Set-up guidance

Start with the PB-1000 Pro near a front corner, run your receiver’s calibration with the subwoofer at its default app settings, then listen from the main seat and adjust from the phone: trim the room-gain control if a corner position over-loads the deepest bass, and use one parametric band against any obvious boom. Because every control is in the app, the crawl-around-with-a-knob stage of subwoofer setup is gone – iterate from the sofa until film effects and music share the same clean foundation.
