Saregama Carvaan Hindi Music Player – White

Saregama Carvaan Hindi Music Player – White

The Saregama Carvaan is a portable digital music player in a retro radio body, pre-loaded with 5000 evergreen Hindi songs so it plays the moment it is switched on: no internet, no app, no account and no streaming subscription. The songs are organised into more than 80 stations across three categories: Artistes, built around legends such as Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and R. D. Burman; Moods, for romance, devotion, ghazals and more; and Geetmala, the classic countdown format. A large dial and simple buttons are the whole interface, which is exactly why the Carvaan works for listeners who never took to smartphones.

This Porcelain White edition carries the same library and hardware: in-built stereo speakers, an LCD screen, a rechargeable battery good for roughly five hours of play, and a remote control for listening from across the room. Beyond the built-in library it works as an FM radio, plays a personal collection from a USB drive, and streams from a phone over Bluetooth, while a 3.5 mm jack connects headphones or an external speaker.

A music library that needs nothing

Streaming services assume a phone, a data connection and a listener willing to search. The Carvaan removes all three assumptions. The 5000-song Saregama catalogue is stored inside the player, sorted into stations the way radio used to be sorted, so turning the dial moves between singers, moods and eras. For older listeners this is the difference between music they can use and music that lives behind a login; for gift buyers it is a present that works the minute it is unwrapped.

More than the built-in library

When the pre-loaded stations are not enough, the Carvaan doubles as a Bluetooth speaker for a phone, plays MP3 collections from a USB drive, and tunes FM radio for news and live broadcasts. The rechargeable battery charges with an Android-compatible charger and gives about five hours away from a socket, enough for a morning of listening in the garden or an evening on the balcony.

Where it fits

At 27 x 17 x 8 cm and 1.5 kg, the Carvaan sits happily on a kitchen counter, bedside table or pooja-room shelf, and travels easily between rooms. Full details are in the Additional Information table on this page.
