Description

BlueRigger Toslink Optical Audio Cable 10ft

The BlueRigger Toslink cable carries digital audio as light. One end clicks into the optical output of a television, console, streamer or CD player; the other into a soundbar, AV receiver or DAC — and the sound travels 10 feet as pulses down a fibre, completely separate from the electrical noise of the room. It is the connection to reach for when HDMI ARC is not available, when the ARC port is already committed, or when you simply want a dedicated, dependable audio path between two devices.

Key features

  • Toslink optical connectors at both ends (S/PDIF)
  • 10 ft length — routes around a full media unit
  • Optical transmission, immune to hum and electrical interference
  • Carries Dolby Digital, DTS and stereo PCM as output by the source
  • Flexible PVC jacket for routing behind furniture
  • Gold-plated connector housings with protective dust caps

Why optical sounds clean

Copper audio cables conduct electricity, which means they can also conduct trouble: ground-loop hum when two devices sit on different mains circuits, buzz from dimmers and chargers, interference from the power leads they run beside. A Toslink fibre conducts none of it — the signal is light, and light does not hum. That is why optical has remained a fixture on televisions, consoles and receivers for decades: connect it, and the audio path is electrically isolated end to end, with the digital signal arriving exactly as the source sent it.

What Toslink carries — and its limits

Toslink follows the S/PDIF standard, the audio format televisions and soundbars are built around. It carries uncompressed stereo PCM and the compressed surround formats of broadcast, streaming and disc — Dolby Digital and DTS up to 5.1 — which covers films, sport and games as most households hear them. It does not carry the lossless HD formats such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD, which need HDMI; for a soundbar or a receiver fed from a TV, games console or streamer, Toslink’s formats are the ones those devices actually use, delivered without fuss.

Ten feet for real media units

Short optical cables force the soundbar and the source into an awkward stack. Ten feet lets the cable travel the route properly: from the television’s optical output, down through or behind the unit, and across to the receiver or DAC where it actually sits — or from a console on one side of the cabinet to the soundbar centred under the screen. The flexible PVC jacket follows those corners without springing back, and the connectors click in positively at both ends so the run stays seated when the unit is nudged.

Setup tips

Remove the protective caps from both connector tips before fitting — they are there to keep dust off the polished fibre ends in storage, and the cable cannot pass light with them on. Toslink plugs are keyed: align the flat side, push until it clicks, and never force a rotation. Keep bends gentle, since a sharply kinked fibre loses light; a wide loop behind the unit is better than a tight fold. Set the source’s digital audio output to the format your soundbar or receiver handles best, and the job is done.

Clean digital sound, no hum, and enough length to route it once and properly — the BlueRigger Toslink 10ft is a small cable that finishes a home-theatre setup.
