Bang & Olufsen Beolab 28 Active Speaker With Oak Grille

Bang & Olufsen Beolab 28 – Active Speaker with Oak Grille

The Beolab 28 is Bang & Olufsen’s slim active column loudspeaker: a fully powered, network-connected speaker with integrated amplification for every driver, motorised acoustic curtains and automatic room adaptation. In this version the column carries an oak grille, and the design can stand on the floor or mount on a wall, bringing a complete high-end music system into a footprint little wider than a dinner plate.

There is no separate amplifier, no speaker cable and no rack: amplification, streaming and room correction all live inside the speaker itself.

Five drivers, five amplifiers

Each Beolab 28 carries a 6.5 inch woofer in its conical base, driven by a 225 W Class D amplifier, plus three 3 inch full-range drivers and a 1 inch tweeter, each with its own 100 W Class D amplifier. Because every driver has dedicated power and digital control, the speaker manages crossover behaviour, output limits and bass extension actively rather than passively. Frequency range extends from 27 Hz to 23,000 Hz, with a maximum sound pressure level of 110 dB SPL measured as a pair.

Beam Width Control and the motorised curtains

The wooden lamella curtains open automatically when the speaker wakes, and they are functional, not decorative. In narrow mode, Beam Width Control concentrates sound toward the listening position for precise stereo imaging with fewer wall reflections. In wide mode the curtains open the dispersion for shared listening across the room. It is a simple control that changes how the speaker interacts with the space, not just an equaliser preset.

Room adaptation built in

Active Room Compensation measures the speaker’s surroundings and adjusts the low-frequency response for floor or wall placement, near a corner or out in the room. Adaptive Bass Linearization continuously monitors the woofer and trims excessive peaks, so bass stays clean at higher levels. Together these systems mean the Beolab 28 does not demand one perfect position to sound right.

Streaming and system building

Beolab 28 connects over dual-band Wi-Fi and Ethernet, with AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth 5.0 and Beolink Multiroom for whole-home grouping, plus Power Link, line-in/optical and Wireless Power Link (WiSA) connections for television and Bang & Olufsen system integration. A proximity-sensing glass touch interface on top handles daily control.

For rooms where the system should be heard rather than seen as equipment, Beolab 28 in oak is a complete, self-contained flagship speaker.
