Design for wall mounting

Drivers and performance

The 4-inch woofer uses the Debut 2.0 woven aramid-fibre cone, whose stiffness and damping support a smooth, extended response for its size, with an oversized magnet for control. The 1-inch cloth-dome tweeter features the wide-roll surround of the second-generation design and takes the response up to 35,000 Hz, keeping surround effects, ambience and music detail consistent with the front speakers. The crossover frequency is 2,500 Hz. Sensitivity of 87 dB means the OW4.2 reaches useful surround levels from modest receiver power, and ELAC optimised the Debut range’s sensitivity and impedance with typical AV receivers in mind, so dynamic peaks in effects channels are handled without strain.

The primary role of the OW4.2 pair is surround duty in 5.1 and 7.1 systems, mounted on the side or rear walls of living rooms and media rooms where in-wall installation is not practical. The same shallow format also suits front left and right channels in minimal installations built around a soundbar-free receiver setup, multi-room music in corridors and commercial spaces that need discreet wall-mounted speakers, and any position where depth is the limiting factor. Connection is by standard speaker cable to 5-way metal binding posts, and each speaker measures 200 mm wide, 324 mm high and 100 mm deep, weighing 3.6 kg.
