BIC America Venturi V1020 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer

BIC America Venturi V1020 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer

The BIC America Venturi V1020 is a powered subwoofer built around a simple formula that has kept it in production for years: a 10-inch long-throw woofer firing downward into the floor, a tuned Venturi vent, and a 160 watt RMS amplifier in a vented enclosure. It adds the bottom octaves that bookshelf and satellite speakers cannot reach, covering 26Hz to 180Hz, and it connects to almost any system ever made because it accepts both line-level and speaker-level signals. Stereo systems without a subwoofer output are as welcome as modern AV receivers.

Key Features

• 10-inch down-firing long-throw woofer with tuned Venturi vent
• 160W RMS continuous power, 350W dynamic peak
• Frequency response from 26Hz to 180Hz
• Adjustable crossover from 40Hz to 180Hz
• Line-level and speaker-level inputs for any amplifier or receiver
• Signal-sensing automatic power on and off

Bass Performance

The down-firing arrangement loads the woofer against the floor, which helps a modest cabinet produce deep, even bass at the listening position, and the tuned Venturi vent extends the low end to 26Hz without the chuffing noise poorly designed ports make at high levels. With 160 watts RMS continuous and 350 watts of dynamic peak on reserve, the V1020 handles film effects and bass-heavy music without running out of headroom in small and medium rooms. It is a vented design tuned for output and extension rather than the sealed-box style, which suits home theatre as much as music.

Integration and Controls

The variable crossover, adjustable from 40Hz to 180Hz, sets where the subwoofer hands over to the main speakers; start near the main speakers’ low-frequency limit and adjust by ear. A volume control balances the subwoofer against the rest of the system. If the receiver or processor manages bass, its crossover should be used and the subwoofer’s set high or bypassed in effect by the receiver’s own filtering. Automatic signal sensing switches the amplifier on when music plays and puts it to sleep when the system is quiet, so the V1020 never needs to be touched in daily use.

Connections and Placement

Receivers with a subwoofer pre-out connect by a single RCA cable. Older stereo amplifiers without one connect at speaker level, and the subwoofer takes its signal from the amplifier’s speaker terminals without disturbing the main speakers. Placement matters as much as any setting: begin near the front wall between or beside the main speakers, keep the cabinet on a stable floor surface with clearance underneath for the down-firing driver, and fine-tune position and level from the main seat. The cabinet measures approximately 419 x 381 x 330mm and is sold singly, so a pair can be added later for smoother bass across a larger room.

BIC America’s limited warranty covers the driver with seven years on parts and the amplifier and associated electronics for two years, reflecting how long this design has remained in continuous production. The dark cabinet finish and bevelled edges keep the box visually quiet in the corner of a living room.
