The Marshall Heston Sub 200 is the low-frequency half of Marshall’s Heston home cinema range, built to pair wirelessly with the Heston 120 and Heston 60 soundbars. Instead of one large driver, it uses two 5.25-inch woofers in a compact ported cabinet, each driven by its own 120 W Class D amplifier, for a total of 236 W peak power. The result is bass that reaches down to 30 Hz from a cabinet barely larger than a cube, with a maximum output of 99 dB at one metre.

Connection is wireless by design. The Sub 200 links to a Heston soundbar over Bluetooth LE Audio, which keeps latency low enough for film dialogue and effects to stay in sync, and removes the cable run that usually decides where a subwoofer ends up. Placement can follow the room’s acoustics instead of the nearest socket or signal lead.

Works beyond the Heston range

Although it is tuned as the matching subwoofer for the Heston soundbars, the Sub 200 is not locked into that system. A standard RCA mono subwoofer input on the rear panel accepts the sub or LFE output of any soundbar, AV receiver, integrated amplifier or network player that provides one, so it can add low-end weight to an existing setup of a different brand. A knurled level knob with an LED ring on the unit itself gives quick manual adjustment without opening the app.

Tuning from the app

Through the Marshall app, the crossover point, volume and phase can be adjusted from the listening position, which is where subwoofer setup decisions actually need to be made. Small changes to crossover and placement make a bigger difference to integration than raw power, and being able to walk the room while adjusting removes the usual guesswork. The wireless link also frees placement entirely: corners, side walls and positions behind seating are all workable without a long RCA run dictating the layout, and the sub can be moved for films and pulled back for everyday television.

Living-room design, built to be repaired

The cabinet carries Marshall’s familiar styling in a textured, PVC-free vegan leather finish with the script logo, and at 282 mm wide it tucks beside a TV unit rather than dominating the floor. Following Marshall’s current design approach, parts including the fret, feet, drivers and circuit boards are replaceable, extending the working life of the unit.

For Heston soundbar owners it is the obvious completion of the system; for everyone else, it is a compact, powerful subwoofer that connects the modern way and still speaks RCA.
