Bose DesignMax DM3SE Wall Speakers (Pair)

Bose DesignMax DM3SE Wall Speakers (Pair)

The Bose DesignMax DM3SE is a surface-mount loudspeaker for commercial spaces, supplied here as a pair in white. It is the compact member of Bose Professional’s DesignMax family, built for background and foreground music plus announcements in retail stores, restaurants, cafes, hospitality venues, conference spaces and places of worship. Inside the small enclosure sits a two-way coaxial driver arrangement: a 3.25-inch weather-treated woofer with a 0.75-inch neodymium dome tweeter mounted at its centre, working within Bose’s Dispersion Alignment system. The result is a loudspeaker that sounds considerably bigger and more composed than its size suggests.

Coaxial mounting matters because the tweeter and woofer radiate from effectively the same point. The Dispersion Alignment system matches the woofer’s coverage to the tweeter’s pattern, giving a wide, even 140-degree conical coverage with no obvious hot spot in front of the speaker and no thin sound off to the sides. In a cafe or boutique, that means the table in the corner hears the same balanced sound as the table directly below the loudspeaker.

Key features

• Coaxial two-way design: 3.25-inch weather-treated woofer with a coaxially mounted 0.75-inch neodymium dome tweeter for coherent, point-source sound.
• Wide, even coverage: Dispersion Alignment system delivers a 140° x 140° coverage pattern so listeners are covered evenly across the room.
• Full range for its size: Frequency response of 85 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB), extending to 75 Hz at -10 dB, with clear highs and surprising low end.
• Distributed-line ready: Multi-tap transformer with 70 V taps at 3, 6, 12 and 25 W and 100 V taps at 6, 12 and 25 W, plus an 8-ohm bypass.
• QuickHold mounting: Patented QuickHold system locks the loudspeaker onto a hidden U-bracket with preset angles of 0°, 15°, 30° and 45° for fast, secure installs.
• Outdoor rated: IP55 rating with an aluminium grille, suitable for sheltered and exposed outdoor locations such as terraces and entrances.
• Clean installed look: Minimum-bezel perforated aluminium grille is paintable, the logo is removable and rotatable, and the white finish blends into light interiors.

Sound quality and voicing

DesignMax loudspeakers are voiced for tonal consistency across the family, so DM3SE pairs can be combined with larger DesignMax models in bigger zones without a change in character. Bose rates the DM3SE at 25 W long-term continuous power handling (100 W peak) with a calculated maximum SPL of 98 dB at 1 m, 104 dB peak — comfortably enough for foreground music in small venues and clear paging over ambient noise. No DSP or EQ is required to get the intended sound; with select Bose DSPs and amplifiers, Bose loudspeaker EQ and SmartBass processing can extend the response further, particularly at low listening levels.

Installation

The DM3SE is surface-mounted and locks onto its included QuickHold U-bracket, which offers four preset mounting angles for wall or ceiling placement — the installer sets the angle, clicks the speaker on, and the bracket disappears behind the enclosure. Wiring is via a rear Euroblock 6-pin connector with loop-through, accepting 18 to 14 AWG cable, which suits both home-run and daisy-chained distributed layouts. The enclosure is engineered plastic resistant to UV fading, the operating temperature range runs from -25 °C to 70 °C, and each loudspeaker measures roughly 232 x 156 x 156 mm, so it stays visually modest on the wall.

Where it fits

Specify the DM3SE where a commercial space needs music and announcements that sound composed all day: boutiques, cafes, small restaurants, hotel lobbies, offices, salons and sheltered outdoor seating. It is a background-music loudspeaker that does not sound like a compromise, voiced to stay pleasant at low levels during the day and still hold together when the volume comes up in the evening.

Sold as a pair in white, the DM3SE gives system designers a small, good-looking, weather-capable loudspeaker with the coverage control and transformer flexibility that commercial work requires.
