The DALI PHANTOM H-50 is the most compact model in DALI’s PHANTOM H series of in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers, engineered in Denmark as a true hi-fi speaker rather than a background-music fitting. A 5.25-inch wood fibre cone woofer and a 28 mm soft dome tweeter, both derived from DALI’s cabinet loudspeakers, cover a frequency range of 52 Hz to 25 kHz. Mounted flush, the speaker leaves only a slim magnetic grille visible, which can be painted to match the room.

Built like a DALI cabinet speaker

The H-50 uses the driver ingredients DALI is known for. The wood fibre cone mixes paper with wood fibres of varying lengths, which stiffens the diaphragm while breaking up the resonances that colour the midrange, so voices and instruments keep their natural texture. The oversized 28 mm soft dome tweeter uses an ultra-light woven fabric diaphragm and a strong magnet system; placing its front plate close to the dome extends the response while keeping dispersion wide, which helps the tweeter hand over cleanly to the woofer at the 2,450 Hz crossover. That crossover is built from audiophile-grade components and includes a PPTC resettable safety device that protects the drivers if the speaker is driven very hard for long periods.

Voiced for real listening positions

Flush-mounted speakers are rarely aimed at the listener, so DALI designs around wide dispersion: the sound stays balanced well off axis, widening the useful listening area instead of creating one narrow sweet spot. That makes the H-50 practical in the roles it is recommended for, as a front, centre or surround speaker in a discreet cinema, or as a music speaker in a room where floor space and appearance matter. Its 52 Hz lower limit gives it genuine body on music, while 105 dB of maximum output means it can handle film dynamics in small and medium rooms when driven within its recommended power range.

Fitting and placement

The cut-out is 239 by 239 mm, the required mounting depth is 92 mm, and the dogleg fixing spans wall or ceiling thicknesses from 10 to 70 mm. As an open-back design, the H-50 works into the cavity behind the surface, and DALI recommends a rear volume between 5 and 25 litres, with 12 litres as the optimum; planning that volume at the build stage is the simplest way to hear the speaker as intended. Spring-loaded, single-wire terminals sit on the crossover board to keep the signal path short.

At 275 mm square including its grille, the PHANTOM H-50 is DALI’s entry into serious architectural sound: compact enough for modest rooms and ceilings, and built from the same driver technology as the company’s freestanding ranges.
