The Gallo Acoustics Micro is a 4-inch spherical loudspeaker machined from steel, housing a single 3-inch full-range driver. It is Gallo’s original small speaker, and its shape is the engineering: a sphere is the strongest and most naturally resonance-free enclosure form, eliminating the internal standing waves and external diffraction that colour the sound of conventional box cabinets. Finished in black, the Micro sits on a desk or shelf as a small sculptural object, mounts on stands or brackets, and can even be recessed into a ceiling, all while covering stereo, surround and multi-room roles.

Because one driver covers the whole range, there is no crossover in the Micro at all. That removes the phase and integration problems that arise where a woofer hands over to a tweeter, and it is a large part of why this small sphere images so precisely. Gallo’s patented S2 fill technology is used inside the enclosure to enhance low-frequency performance beyond what the size suggests, so the Micro sounds larger than its 4-inch diameter would lead you to expect, especially when wall, ceiling or stand mounting reinforces the low end.

Spherical design and S2 technology

Flat cabinet panels flex and resonate, and sharp cabinet edges diffract sound as it leaves the driver. A sphere avoids both problems: its curved surface has no parallel internal walls to set up standing waves, and there are no edges near the driver to scatter the wavefront. The enclosure is mild steel, which gives the small cabinet rigidity and a reassuring density in the hand. Inside, the S2 fill damps and loads the driver in a way that extends usable bass, which is why the published response differs by placement: 100 Hz to 18 kHz when wall, ceiling or stand mounted, and 120 Hz to 18 kHz on a tabletop.

Sound performance

A single point source with no crossover produces a stable, sharply defined stereo image, and voices in particular benefit from the absence of a crossover region in the middle of their range. The Micro is a satellite by design: it covers the midrange and treble with unusual openness for its size, and it partners naturally with a subwoofer that takes over below its operating range in a full cinema or larger stereo system. In nearfield desk use, in a small-room stereo pair, or spread around a room as surrounds, the presentation stays clean because the enclosure contributes so little of its own sound.

Placement and build

At 795 g and 4 inches across, the Micro can go almost anywhere a box speaker cannot: on a desk beside a monitor, on a shelf, on floor stands, on wall brackets, or in-ceiling using the appropriate mount. Connections are made at the rear terminal area, and the steel sphere is built to Gallo’s standard warranty of five years for parts and labour. The black finish suits rooms where the speakers should recede, while the form itself remains a deliberate piece of industrial design rather than an imitation of a wooden cabinet.

Few speakers this small have stayed in production on merit alone. The Micro endures because the sphere solves real acoustic problems, the single-driver layout keeps the sound coherent, and the result is a compact speaker that can start as a desktop pair and scale into a full surround system over time.
