The Yamaha VS6 is a compact two-way surface-mount loudspeaker for commercial background music and paging systems, supplied here as a pair. Yamaha designed the VS series for the everyday reality of installed sound: speakers that must blend into cafés, shops, offices and restaurants, survive years of continuous duty, and still sound clear enough that announcements stay intelligible and music does not fatigue listeners. A 6.5-inch (160 mm) cone woofer and a 1-inch (25 mm) balanced dome tweeter deliver a frequency range of 80 Hz to 20 kHz with 90 dB sensitivity.

Flexibility is built in. An internally mounted transformer allows the same speaker to run on 70 V or 100 V distributed lines or as a direct 8-ohm load, so the VS6 fits a single-room system driven by a small amplifier just as readily as a multi-zone installation spanning a whole building. The enclosure meets the IEC 60529 IPX3 splash-proof standard, extending use to sheltered outdoor positions under eaves and canopies, and an overload protection circuit guards the drivers against accidental overdrive.

Constant-Voltage Operation, Explained

On a 100 V line the VS6 offers taps of 25, 12.5 and 6.3 watts; on 70 V a 3.1 W tap is added for quiet zones. Tapping is how an installer balances a system: speakers near seating can run at a lower wattage while units covering a noisy entrance or outdoor terrace run higher, all from one amplifier line. Where only one or two pairs are needed, the 8-ohm setting connects directly to a conventional stereo or multi-channel amplifier, and the 90 dB sensitivity means modest power produces comfortable background levels.

Mounting and Appearance

The supplied U-brackets mount each speaker on a wall or ceiling in either horizontal or vertical orientation, with aiming adjustment for directing the 90-degree coverage where it is needed. The softly contoured enclosure and grille can be painted, so the pair can be colour-matched to the interior rather than standing out against it. Each speaker measures 190 x 308 x 219 mm and weighs 2.8 kg, light enough for straightforward one-person installation on most wall surfaces.

Sold as a pair, the VS6 covers a café, boutique or small restaurant as a starting system and scales by adding pairs per zone.
