The R-101SW is the 10-inch model in Klipsch’s Reference series subwoofer line: a front-firing spun-copper TCP woofer driven by an all-digital amplifier rated at 150 W continuous and 300 W peak. The rated response of 29.5 Hz to 120 Hz (+/-3 dB) with 112.5 dB of maximum acoustic output gives compact and mid-size home cinema systems the low-frequency extension their main speakers cannot reach, in a cabinet sized for ordinary living rooms.

The slot port is built into the front of the reinforced MDF enclosure beneath the woofer, so the R-101SW can sit close to a wall without choking its output – useful when the sub has to live beside a media unit rather than out in the room.

Dialling It In

Connect the R-101SW to your AV receiver’s subwoofer output (LFE), let the receiver handle bass management, and set the sub’s crossover to its maximum so it does not double-filter. For stereo systems without bass management, use the variable crossover to hand over where your main speakers roll off – typically 60-80 Hz for floorstanders, 80-100 Hz for bookshelf models – and pick the phase setting that gives the fullest bass at the listening seat. If cable routing is the obstacle, the WA-2 wireless kit (sold separately) plugs into the dedicated port on the back panel.

Build

The enclosure is reinforced MDF with a strengthened front baffle to resist the flex that blurs low-frequency detail, finished in a scratch-resistant wood-grain vinyl. Full technical data is listed in the specifications below.
