Sennheiser AMBEO Sub (SW02)

Sennheiser AMBEO Sub (SW02)

The Sennheiser AMBEO Sub, model SW02, is the dedicated subwoofer for the AMBEO soundbar family, built to supply the low-frequency foundation that even a large soundbar cannot physically produce. Inside its sealed enclosure sits a single 8-inch long-throw woofer with a cellulose cone, driven by a 350 W RMS Class D amplifier, and the combination is rated to reach down to 27 Hz. It connects to the AMBEO Soundbar Plus wirelessly, or by cable to the AMBEO Soundbar Max, and it calibrates itself to the room using a built-in microphone, measuring how the space shapes its output and correcting its response accordingly. Up to four AMBEO Subs can work in one system, each calibrated individually, for rooms that need bass distributed more evenly.

Key features

• 8-inch long-throw woofer: A high-end cellulose cone driver with long excursion, sized and tuned specifically for low-frequency reproduction.
• 350 W Class D amplification: The built-in amplifier delivers 350 W RMS, giving the driver the control needed for deep, tight bass at film soundtrack levels.
• Bass down to 27 Hz: A rated frequency response of 27 Hz to 80 Hz covers the effects channel content that gives action scenes their physical impact.
• Sealed enclosure: The closed-box design trades raw port output for a tighter, drier bass character that starts and stops cleanly.
• Automatic room calibration: A built-in far-field microphone lets the sub scan the room’s acoustics and adjust its response to compensate for room effects.
• Wireless connection: Bluetooth 5.2 Low Energy links the sub to the AMBEO Soundbar Plus with low latency, so placement is not dictated by a cable run.
• Multi-sub scaling: Up to four AMBEO Subs can be connected to one soundbar and calibrated individually for larger or difficult rooms.
• App and web control: The Smart Control app and web interface provide setup, equaliser settings and volume management after the guided onboarding.

Calibration: why it matters more for bass

Low frequencies interact with a room more than any other part of the spectrum. Walls, corners and the listening seat itself create peaks where bass booms and nulls where it disappears, and a subwoofer placed in the only practical corner can sound very different from the same unit in free space. The AMBEO Sub addresses this directly: its built-in microphone measures the room during setup, and its dual-core processing applies correction for the negative characteristics it finds. That makes placement more forgiving. The sub can go where the room allows, including out of sight, and still produce an even result at the listening position, which is rarely true of an uncorrected subwoofer.

Connecting to an AMBEO system

Pairing depends on the soundbar. The AMBEO Soundbar Plus connects wirelessly over the dedicated Bluetooth Low Energy link, which keeps latency low enough for film synchronisation. The AMBEO Soundbar Max connects by cable through the sub’s mono RCA input, which accepts up to 2 V. The wired input also makes the AMBEO Sub usable in a straightforward wired subwoofer role. Onboarding through the app walks through connection and calibration in sequence, and once calibrated, the sub integrates its level with the soundbar so the system presents as one speaker rather than two separate boxes to manage.

Size, placement and daily use

The cabinet measures approximately 27.4 x 36.9 x 27.4 cm with its feet fitted and weighs 8.2 kg, compact enough to sit beside a media unit, in a corner, or partially concealed by furniture; because the connection to the Plus is wireless, only a power socket is needed nearby. The sealed design helps here too, since it is less sensitive to being placed near a wall than a ported subwoofer whose port needs room to breathe. Power supply is universal at 100 to 240 V, and standby consumption stays low in both wired and wireless configurations.

The AMBEO Sub completes an AMBEO soundbar system in the way the system was designed to be completed: with a calibrated, sealed subwoofer that adds genuine 27 Hz extension and room-corrected bass rather than unshaped volume.
