The Denon PMA-600NE is a stereo integrated amplifier that combines a high-current analogue amplifier with the inputs a modern system actually needs: Bluetooth, two optical and one coaxial digital input with a 192 kHz/24-bit DAC, and an MM phono input for a turntable. It delivers 45 W per channel into 8 ohms and 70 W per channel into 4 ohms, in a full-width metal-fronted chassis with a remote control.

Power and the amplifier circuit

Denon’s Advanced High Current single push-pull circuit uses output devices with two to three times the current supply capacity of conventional audio power transistors, which is what lets a modestly rated amplifier drive real-world speakers — including 4-ohm loads — with stability. The rated figures are 45 W per channel into 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range at 0.07% THD, and 70 W per channel into 4 ohms at 1 kHz. Signal-to-noise ratio is 105 dB on the high-level inputs.

Digital, Bluetooth and phono sources

A television, a CD transport and a streamer can all feed the internal DAC: two optical inputs and one coaxial input accept digital audio at up to 192 kHz/24-bit through the PCM5141 converter. Bluetooth adds the phone or tablet on the sofa, with no cable and no extra box. On the analogue side there are five inputs in total, including the MM phono input with its own equaliser (2.5 mV / 47 kohm sensitivity), so a turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge connects directly — no external phono stage required. That mix makes the PMA-600NE a realistic single centre for a system built from vinyl, discs, television and streaming.

Analogue Mode, tone and outputs

For pure analogue listening, Analogue Mode switches off the digital circuits and display, and the micro-processor stop function stills the digital clock, protecting the signal from external noise. Source Direct bypasses the tone stage for the shortest path, while the tone controls themselves offer bass adjustment of ±8 dB at 100 Hz and treble of ±8 dB at 10 kHz, plus balance, when a recording or room needs help. Outputs include a subwoofer pre-out for adding low-frequency support, a line output for a recorder, and a front headphone output for private listening. One pair of speakers connects to the binding-post terminals.

Build and system fit

The amplifier measures 434 x 308 x 121 mm and weighs 6.8 kg, with a metal front panel, solid heat sinks and Schottky diodes in the power supply. Power consumption is 185 W, with 0.3 W standby and auto power off. The supplied RC-1234 system remote can also operate a matching Denon CD player or network player.
