Q Acoustics Qi 65LW Rock Speaker

Q Acoustics Qi 65LW Rock Speaker

The Q Acoustics Qi 65LW is an outdoor loudspeaker designed to be heard and not seen. Inside a granite-effect rock cabinet sits a two-way system with a 6.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch PEI dome tweeter, built for permanent ground-level installation in landscaped gardens, patios and poolside areas. It is a passive, single speaker, IPX4 certified for life outdoors, and it connects to a conventional amplifier like any other 8 ohm loudspeaker.

Key features

• Granite-effect rock cabinet that blends into planting and borders
• Two-way design with 6.5-inch woofer and 1-inch PEI dome tweeter
• IPX4 weatherproof certification to IEC 60529
• 10 to 60 W power handling at 8 ohms, 88 dB sensitivity
• Frequency response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz
• Glass-reinforced polymer cabinet with weatherproof cable termination

Designed to disappear

Conventional outdoor speakers announce themselves as black or white boxes fixed to walls and fences. The Qi 65LW takes the opposite approach: the textured granite-effect finish and rock form let it sit among stones, planting and alpine-style borders where the eye passes over it. Placed at ground level, one speaker covers a patio or seating area with background and foreground music; a second unit, spaced across the space, gives stereo coverage for larger gardens and pool decks.

Drivers and outdoor sound

Sound outdoors behaves differently from sound in a room: there are no walls to reinforce bass and no ceiling to contain the treble, so a garden speaker needs genuine output and a wide, even response. The 6.5-inch woofer is a wide-range driver sized to move enough air for open-air listening, and the 1-inch PEI dome tweeter keeps voices and detail clear across a seating area. The rated response is 70 Hz to 20 kHz with a -3 dB low-frequency point of 55 Hz, and sensitivity of 88 dB means a modest amplifier produces useful volume without being worked hard.

Built for permanent outdoor life

The Qi 65LW is fully IPX4 certified, which covers splashing water from any direction, the everyday reality of rain, sprinklers and poolside use. The cabinet is rugged glass-reinforced polymer, a construction chosen to resist weather and knocks from garden tools and mowers far better than a conventional speaker enclosure, and the cable termination is weatherproof so the connection point is not the weak link. The speaker is intended to stay outside in position through the seasons rather than be carried in and out, which also means the system is always ready when the garden is used.

Amplification and placement

As a passive 8 ohm speaker rated for 10 to 60 W, the Qi 65LW works with most stereo amplifiers, AV receivers and multi-zone systems, including a spare pair of channels on an indoor amplifier run out to the garden with suitable outdoor cable. Position it at ground level with the drivers facing the listening area and clear space around the cabinet so the sound is not muffled by dense planting. For even coverage of a long terrace, two speakers spaced apart at moderate volume will sound better than one speaker played loudly.

For gardens where visible technology would spoil the design, the Qi 65LW offers real two-way output and certified weatherproofing in a cabinet that looks like part of the landscape.
