The ELAC AJ1020 is a compact powered subwoofer built to give stereo and home theatre systems the low-frequency foundation that bookshelf and satellite speakers cannot produce on their own. Why a Separate Subwoofer Matters

Most bookshelf speakers roll off well above the deepest bass in a recording, so the lowest octaves of a film score, a kick drum or an organ pedal note simply never reach the listener. A powered subwoofer takes over that entire range with a driver and amplifier designed only for low frequencies. Placement and Setup

The variable 40–150 Hz crossover and level control make it straightforward to integrate the AJ1020 with almost any speaker package. Start with the subwoofer near a front corner of the room, where boundary reinforcement adds output, set the crossover to around 80 Hz with a typical AV receiver (or let the receiver’s bass management handle it over the LFE input) and adjust the level so the bass supports the system without drawing attention to itself. The compact footprint — roughly 31 cm wide and 36 cm tall — makes it easy to tuck beside a media unit or sofa in smaller rooms.
