The Monitor Audio Bronze W10 is the powered subwoofer of the Bronze 6G range. A 10-inch C-CAM driver with a dished cone and a 2-inch long-throw voice coil is driven by a 220 W Class D amplifier, and works with a 10-inch flat-panel Auxiliary Bass Radiator mounted in the base of a sealed, internally braced 18 mm MDF cabinet. The combination is designed to give controlled low-frequency extension, down to 25 Hz in-room on the default Music preset, from a cabinet only 321 mm wide.

An ABR Instead of a Port

An Auxiliary Bass Radiator is a passive diaphragm driven by the air pressure inside a sealed cabinet. It reinforces the lowest frequencies in a similar way to a port, but retains the control associated with a sealed enclosure: there is no turbulent port noise on large film effects, and the bass can start and stop cleanly. Because the ABR fires downward from the base of the W10, placement close to a wall remains practical, and the sealed design keeps the behaviour predictable in real rooms.

Driver and Amplifier Control

The C-CAM cone is light and rigid, with a dished profile and a long-throw motor system giving 17 mm of peak-to-peak linear excursion. Low bass is as much about control as movement, and the 220 W Class D amplifier uses a high-current switch mode supply to hold that control when several channels of a soundtrack demand low frequencies at once. All of the W10’s signal controls are handled with DSP, so the crossover, phase and EQ settings are applied precisely in the digital domain.

Three Presets for Different Listening

The Music preset is the default and the most even-handed, intended for two-channel systems and mixed listening. Movie adds weight for soundtracks, and Impact maximises output for action material. The variable low-pass filter, adjustable from 40 Hz to 120 Hz, sets where the main speakers hand over to the subwoofer, while the phase switch aligns the W10’s output with the main speakers at the listening position.

Integration and Everyday Use

An LFE input serves AV receivers with their own bass management, and stereo RCA inputs serve two-channel systems without a subwoofer output. A 12 V trigger lets a receiver or processor switch the W10 with the rest of the system, and auto-sensing turns it on when a signal above 3 mV arrives, returning it to a standby draw below 0.5 W after 20 minutes without a signal.
