Focal Sub Air Wireless Subwoofer

Focal Sub Air Wireless Subwoofer with Wireless Transmitter

The Sub Air solves the two problems that stop people adding a subwoofer: where to put the box, and how to run the cable to it. Focal’s design is a flat bass-reflex enclosure only 160 mm deep that can be mounted on a wall or laid flat on the floor, and the signal arrives wirelessly from the transmitter included in the box – connect the transmitter to your AV receiver’s subwoofer output, place the Sub Air where the room sounds best, and the only cable it needs is power.

Inside, an 8-inch (21 cm) Polyflex woofer is driven by a BASH amplifier rated at 110 W RMS (150 W peak), giving a response of 40 Hz to 200 Hz with extension down to 35 Hz – enough to add real weight to film soundtracks and music without a full-size cabinet dominating the room.

Key Features

• Flat enclosure: wall-mounts or lies flat, only 160 mm deep
• Wireless transmitter included – place the sub anywhere within about 15 m of the receiver
• 8-inch Polyflex woofer with 110 W RMS BASH amplification
• Variable 50-200 Hz low-pass crossover and 0/180-degree phase switch for blending with main speakers
• LFE and stereo line inputs; automatic on/off with the signal
• The natural bass partner for Focal satellite systems such as Sib Evo and Dome

Why Go Wireless and Flat?

Subwoofer placement is normally dictated by the nearest wall socket and the length of an RCA cable, not by acoustics. A wireless link breaks that constraint: you can position the Sub Air where bass is smoothest – along a side wall, behind the sofa on the wall, or flanking the screen – and use the crossover and phase controls to blend it with your main speakers. The flat profile also means it can disappear into the room’s design rather than sitting in it as a black cube, which is why Focal positions the Sub Air as the bass partner for design-led satellite systems.

Setup Notes

Connect the transmitter to your receiver’s LFE/sub output (or stereo pre-outs), pair it with the subwoofer, then set the crossover near your main speakers’ low-frequency limit – or bypass it when using an LFE feed with bass management in the receiver.
